Hidden Away: MET Glodok Relives Glodok’s Golden Era Through Food and Art
Among the old-school and timeless Chinatown housing complexes of Glodok, MET Glodok stands out as a striking four-story settlement at Jl. Kemenangan III No.78, directly across from Ricci School. Nestled in the heart of Jakarta’s bustling Chinatown, the surrounding streets are constantly teeming with activity, from vibrant markets to traditional eateries and historical landmarks.

MET Glodok, led by artist Metta Setiandi, is a creative space dedicated to showcasing the rich heritage and culture of Glodok. Through immersive art, storytelling, and community engagement, Setiandi brings new perspectives to this historic area, inviting visitors to experience its vibrant atmosphere firsthand. MET Glodok serves as both a tribute to the past and a bridge to the future, fostering a deeper connection between art, history, and the local community.
Given the high traffic and limited parking space, visitors are advised against bringing private vehicles, as finding a parking spot can be extremely challenging. Instead, the best way to reach MET Glodok is by walking or utilizing online transportation services, ensuring a smoother and more convenient journey through this dynamic and culturally rich neighborhood.

That is the essence of Metta Setiandi’s lens—expanding her narrative, inspiring new perspectives, and inviting local plus international visitors to truly experience and connect with the Glodok heritage.
The open dining area with grey tables embraces an al fresco style, contrasting with Glodok’s vibrant, old-school charm. Inside, the space is adorned with personal mementos from Metta Setiandi’s parents, passed down through generations, adding nostalgic stories and intimate touch.

The bar area invites customers to enjoy MET’s simple yet unique menu of thin, elongated croissant sandwiches, crafted with specialty fillings by LIT Bakehouse, an artisanal bakery run by Metta Setiandi’s sister, Lalita Setiandi.

At the back, a semi-open backyard adorned with wall planters creates a refreshing and serene atmosphere. This inviting space offers the perfect spot to relax, unwind, and appreciate Glodok’s rich heritage and Metta's art installations.
MET Glodok keeps its menu simple yet distinctive, focusing exclusively on croissant sandwiches. The must-try signature dishes are its croissant-based sandwiches, offering a delightful blend of flavours. The Jambon Comte Sandwich features Paris ham, cucumber, and savoury Comté cheese, delivering a fresh and balanced bite. Meanwhile, the Caesar Chicken Sandwich is a hearty option, packed with romaine lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes, chicken breast, homemade mayonnaise, and crispy Parmigiano Reggiano for a rich, fulfilling experience.

For a sweet option, the Mix Berries Sandwich is a must-try. Made with vanilla custard, raspberry jam, vanilla cream, and fresh berries, it offers a perfect balance of sweet, fresh sour, and creamy flavours. Light yet indulgent, this treat is both refreshing and satisfying.

To fully embrace Glodok’s heritage, pair your meal with a refreshing iced Luo Han Guo. This sweet monk fruit drink, cherished in traditional Chinese medicine for its healing properties.

A visit to MET Glodok feels like a journey through time, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage and past glories of Glodok. This unique space deepens our understanding of its history while preserving its charm in this modern era.
