High enthusiasm was shown by running activists who participated in Pertamina Eco-RunFest 2022. As many as 8,300 participants filled the area around Istora Senayan Jakarta Sunday, November 27th, 2022.
Participants who have registered fulfil the Challenges Multiple Run by running together in various categories including 1.5K Family Run for children aged 7-12 years and companions over 17 years old, 5K Fun Run which can be followed by all ages, 10K Race with categories Student (age 13-17 years), General (age 18-44 years) and Master (over 45 years) as well as the new Eco-Run category, the 21K Half Marathon with General categories (age 18-44 years) and Master (over of 45 years).
"I am very pleased with the very high interest of the Pertamina Eco-RunFest participants this year. I give my appreciation to all participants," said Pertamina Main Director Nicke Widyawati, who also ran in the 5K Fun Run.
In its 9th year of implementation, Pertamina Eco-Run comes with a new concept, namely Pertamina Eco RunFest 2022, with the theme Sustainable Living, which not only presents an Eco-Run event but also presents an Eco-Fest that consists of a cross-generational music festival "Energizing Music Festivals" and domestic bazaars "Eco-Market" which present eco-friendly products and lifestyle.
"We know that we are faced with the challenge of climate change which is becoming more and more real. For this reason, through this activity, Pertamina wants to invite the community to join together to start a sustainable lifestyle, we start from ourselves from simple things. For example, what can we are doing today, includes being aware of waste, disposing of waste according to its category, we have prepared trash bins. We will sort and process the waste from this activity, so that as much as possible the waste can be recycled again or turned into compost," he said.
According to Nicke, this is in line with Pertamina's aspirations to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060, which among other things, is carried out through the decarbonization of Pertamina Group's business activities, such as capturing and storing carbon dioxide, which is reused to increase energy production, as well as the used of clean and efficient energy in Pertamina's operational areas.
Apart from decarbonization, Pertamina is also intensively promoting low-carbon energy and new renewable energy, such as biofuels, geothermal, and hydrogen.
"So, come on, let's do our part in supporting Net Zero Emissions, so that the future of our children and grandchildren and our earth remains sustainable," he appealed.
The implementation of the Eco-RunFest was positively responded by the participants. One of them was Kuntoro, who left his home in Bogor at 04.00 a.m. to participate in this competition.
"I am happy to participate in this activity each year. Besides making our bodies healthy, we can stay in touch with other Pertamina affiliates. Hopefully, this activity can energize us all to be healthier and more united," he said.
The same thing was conveyed by Baim Wong, an artist who is now a YouTuber. He also admitted that he was impressed with the Eco-RunFest implementation, which prioritized the participants' safety, health, and comfort.
"It's not easy to organize 8,000 participants with a two-ticketing system. But I see Pertamina has succeeded in doing it. Very cool. I will definitely take part in this event again in the future," said Baim, who was participating in this event for the first time.
As we know, according to the health protocol, all Eco-Run participants are required to have taken the 3rd Vaccine (Booster) to be able to take part in this running event. Pertamina has prepared 235 Marshall securities and 30 bike Marshall securities who will be placed per 100 meters along the route to line and separate participants from vehicles. Moreover, 60 traffic controller personnel will also be assigned at each critical point on the running route, one of which is at a crossroads.
Not only for safety and health but for the convenience of Eco-Run participants, we also provide 13 Hydration Points or Water Stations per 2 Kilometres along the route, which is better than similar running events, which usually place water stations per 2.5 kilometres. Apart from that, Pertamina will also alert 10 units of ambulances along with a medical team equipped with pacemakers and mini ICUs
