Celebrating Indonesian Cultural Retrospective at Bulan Bahasa Sekolah Pelita Harapan Lippo Village

As a country rich in resources and culture, Indonesia has a wealth of language and heritage from Sabang to Merauke. With each one unique and different, the Indonesian language was born as our unifying tongue. During the Youth Pledge back on October 28, 1928, Bahasa Indonesia was established as the national language of Indonesia. This mother tongue connects and unites ethnicities, as it is a symbol of our national identity and pride.

Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) Lippo Village embraces its diverse and multiracial community found in the student body, leadership team, and families. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) world school that offers multiple language classes, SPH Lippo Village remains determined to encourage the next generation of leaders and successors to study and preserve the Indonesian language and culture. This effort of preserving the students and staffs’ national identity is realized through SPH Lippo Village’s Language Month, or Bulan Bahasa, throughout the month of October 2022.

The theme of this year’s Language Month, “Retrospection of Indonesian Tradition and Literature,” seeks to evoke a sense of love and pride in the Indonesian language and culture, especially within the SPH Lippo Village community. This highlight event of Bulan Bahasa consists of traditional dance performances, traditional music, comedy drama performances, orchestra, choir, and a bazaar with traditional food and games. SPH Lippo Village hopes that this event will increase students’ knowledge, appreciation, and love for the country, in addition to providing opportunities for them to participate in activities that evoke a sense of nationalism, unity, and diversity.

Through all these efforts, the school’s desire is for students to realize the intricate details and creativity found in creation, while also preparing them for the rigors of academic study to come through supportive and caring teachers. In addition to igniting a sense of nationalism, Bulan Bahasa festival showcases SPH Lippo Village’s partnership with the Parents Advisory Group (PAG), which is the school’s parents' community, whose assistance and contributions made it all possible.
