An underground tunnel will soon connect several luxury hotels surrounding Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta as part of the city's expanding MRT network.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the hotels linked to the underground passage are Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Pullman Jakarta Indonesia, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, and Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta.
The initiative is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's broader effort to reduce traffic congestion while creating a safer, more convenient experience for pedestrians in the city centre.
Currently, it has reportedly been under construction and is expected to be ready for use by early 2027.
“Once completed, hotel guests, office workers, shoppers, and MRT passengers will be able to move between buildings and the station through a fully enclosed underground network, protected from traffic, weather, and pollution,” said Pramono.
The project also supports Jakarta's vision of becoming a more sustainable and pedestrian-friendly city, transforming Bundaran HI into not only one of the capital's most recognisable landmarks but also a fully integrated urban mobility hub.
"There will also be many MSME [micro, small, and medium enterprises] stalls inside, similar to what you find in major cities around the world," he said.
