Novotel & ibis Styles Jakarta Mangga Dua Square Collaborate with EcoTouch to Transform Hotel Uniforms into Eco-Friendly Recycled Materials
Novotel and ibis Styles Jakarta Mangga Dua Square reaffirm their commitment to sustainability through a partnership with EcoTouch, an Indonesian social enterprise pioneering textile recycling. The collaboration transforms retired hotel uniforms into functional materials that reduce waste and advance Indonesia’s circular economy.
As Green Key certified properties, the two hotels translate environmental values into measurable action by closing the loop on textile use. The initiative also commemorates Novotel Jakarta Mangga Dua Square’s 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of hospitality through renewal and purpose.
A total of 131.55 kilograms of retired uniforms, collected throughout twenty years of operation, were handed to EcoTouch for transformation. Each fabric was examined and processed for its next life cycle. Usable textiles are re-spun into yarn or new fabric, while others are converted into recycled insulation felt, a long-lasting and fire-resistant material now supporting green construction projects across Indonesia.

The partnership underscores how the hospitality sector can contribute to real environmental progress. Indonesia produces more than 2.3 million tons of textile waste annually, yet only 12% is recycled. By re-engineering its own materials, the hotels lessen landfill pressure while helping sustain local industries that rely on ethical production.
EcoTouch connects sustainability with community empowerment. Its network of local producers turns reclaimed fabrics into practical goods such as insulation panels, home accessories, and reusable textiles, creating new economic opportunities while cutting carbon emissions.
The recycling effort coincided with Heartist Gratitude Week 2025, Accor’s global appreciation event for employees known as Heartists®. Staff members took part in sorting and preparing the uniforms, turning a symbolic gesture into a collective practice of gratitude and environmental care.
“This partnership with EcoTouch reminds us that sustainability is not built through grand gestures but through consistent, collective effort,” said Stephane Bryer, General Manager of Novotel and ibis Styles Jakarta Mangga Dua Square. “Each recycled uniform carries part of our story. Turning them into something that supports the environment reflects our gratitude for 20 years of service and our responsibility to the future.”
Through these ongoing initiatives, Novotel and ibis Styles Jakarta Mangga Dua Square continue to advance Accor’s sustainability vision centered on carbon reduction, resource efficiency, and community inclusion. Every project reinforces a single message: that meaningful hospitality extends beyond comfort to include care for the world we share.
