HASAKA BECOMING: From Speakeasy to Music Hub in the Heart of Melawai

A Defining Step Toward a Broader Music Ecosystem and Creative Community

After four years of presence as both a bar and a listening room in Melawai, HASAKA is stepping into its next chapter. Beyond a refreshed interior, the move marks a deliberate reassertion of identity: HASAKA is repositioning itself as an inclusive, genre-fluid music space built to move with today's fast-shifting landscape. The transformation carries a name of its own: HASAKA BECOMING.

"Being in Melawai is a privilege in itself. It's where we've had a front-row seat to how trends and subcultures take shape," says Arya Hiram, owner of HASAKA. "That vantage point has become our compass for continued evolution, while the essence stays exactly the same: a space that is welcoming and supportive of every creative community in motion."

Rido Tomasouw, HASAKA's Program Director, notes that this new direction has, in many ways, already been taking shape through a lineup of recurring programs. Listening Room brings musicians and cross-disciplinary creators together to unpack their work in conversation; SHAPPO builds a bridge to musicians across Southeast Asia; Jive N Jam spotlights distinctive personalities through curated playlists; and Fuse Into Form pairs two different entities behind HASAKA's bar and deck in collaboration.

"All of these programs, including our various Takeover formats, are instruments for staying connected and amplifying the creative spectrum as it evolves," he explains.

HASAKA's push toward becoming an open music hub is closely tied to the vision of Leno, its Music Director. "As time goes on, I'm more convinced than ever that music should be inclusive and universal. The lines between genres are dissolving, and that's exactly what opens up room for wider collaboration," says the artist, also known as one half of the collective THEMAN. "This makes me so excited, because HASAKA will be the first spot in Blok M to fully embody this concept."

The new chapter opens on Monday, August 31, 2026, when HASAKA — located at Jl. Melawai 8 No. 3, South Jakarta — unveils its new look and feel. Media partners are invited to experience HASAKA BECOMING firsthand, with the hope of opening up further avenues for collaboration ahead. For updates, follow HASAKA on social media.
