Museum MACAN and Bar Kotak present Out of Home

Museum MACAN and Bar Kotak proudly unveil Out of Home, a deeply evocative exhibition by artist Hilarius Jason that reimagines the idea of “home” through memory, emotion, and sensory experience. Far beyond a traditional visual showcase, Out of Home transforms Bar Kotak into an immersive dreamscape—an environment where recollection and imagination blur, and where visitors are invited to wander through the shifting terrain of their own personal histories.

Drawing from fragments of his childhood, Jason constructs a narrative that unfolds like a gentle drift through the subconscious. The exhibition invites guests to enter rooms that feel familiar yet out of reach, to hear echoes that seem both distant and intimate, and to revisit spaces once filled with wonder. Through this atmospheric journey, Out of Home examines how memory shapes identity, and how the spaces we carry within us define our sense of belonging.

Jason’s photographic works

At the heart of the exhibition are Jason’s photographic works, each one a window into fleeting emotional moments. His images capture scenes that feel intimate yet slightly distorted—like memories that surface not exactly as they happened, but as they were felt. This tension between clarity and haze becomes the emotional core of the exhibition, mirroring the elusive nature of remembering. The viewer is guided through a sequence of emotional “temperatures,” shifting from warmth and comfort to moments of unease and distance. These transitions create a rhythm that reflects how memories often blur, overlap, or dissolve into one another.

The multisensory design elevates this experience further. Lighting, spatial arrangement, and subtle sound cues work together to create an atmosphere that is nostalgic, tender, and deliberately surreal—suggesting a state of reverie where truth and imagination coexist. The result is a living, breathing memory-scape that invites visitors not only to observe, but to feel.

Bar Kotak series of cocktails inspired by Jason’s imagery

Beyond its visual and emotional depth, Out of Home extends the experience through taste. Bar Kotak introduces a series of cocktails inspired by Jason’s imagery, each crafted to reflect the emotional landscapes explored in the exhibition. These drinks act as liquid interpretations of memory—bold, soft, warm, or disorienting—adding another layer to the sensory narrative.

To complement the cocktails, SHIKAKU presents a selection of thoughtfully curated canapés. Meanwhile, BASK debuts its newest creation: the Black Sesame Cheesecake. Rich, layered, and subtly nostalgic, the dessert echoes the exhibition’s exploration of depth, memory, and reinterpretation.

Together, these culinary elements enrich the journey, transforming Out of Home into a complete multisensory encounter where art, taste, and emotion intertwine. Visitors are encouraged to linger, observe, and reconnect with the feelings and places that define their own idea of home.

Ultimately, Out of Home is more than an exhibition—it is an invitation. An invitation to remember, to reflect, and to rediscover what “home” means when viewed through the intimate lens of memory.
