THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa
Celebrates Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary
Through Inclusive Fashion Show and Sustainable MSME Collaboration
The spirit of independence is not only celebrated through ceremonies, but also through opportunities to create, participate, and grow together. Embracing this spirit in commemorating Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary, THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa collaborated with Edith House, POTADS Community (Persatuan Orang Tua Anak dengan Down Syndrome), and Madda Craft 1432 through an initiative titled “Celebrate Creativity and Inclusion.”
Carrying the spirit of “celebrating creativity without boundarie,” the initiative featured a fashion show with children from POTADS Community as models, fashion creations by local designer Edith House, and sustainable products from Madda Craft 1432. The program continued with a table manner session for children and companions from POTADS Community at Dwangsa9 Indonesian Restaurant.
The collaboration reflects THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa’s commitment to delivering a hospitality experience that goes beyond service, while creating meaningful spaces for inclusivity, local MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) empowerment, creativity, and environmental awareness.
When Fashion Becomes a Space for Inclusion
One of the highlights of “Celebrate Creativity and Inclusion” was an inclusive fashion show featuring children from POTADS Community as models.
Out of 30 children who registered, 10 were selected to participate in the fashion show. Wearing creations by Edith House, the participants confidently and enthusiastically walked through the lobby of THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa.
More than simply a fashion presentation, the fashion show provided the children with an opportunity to experience being in the public spotlight, express themselves, and build their confidence.
For POTADS Community, the occasion also provided a new and meaningful experience that could be enjoyed together by the children and their families.
Rani Rosdayantika, representative of POTADS Indonesia, said:
“We truly appreciate the opportunity given to the children of POTADS to take part in this activity. For them, having the opportunity to perform and gain experiences such as participating in a fashion show is truly meaningful. We hope collaborations like this can continue to grow, because inclusivity is not only about providing opportunities, but also about creating a space where children can feel accepted, valued, and confident.”
Celebrating Local Creativity Through Sustainable Fashion
The fashion show was further enriched by the creations of Edith House, a local designer that develops fashion pieces using the eco-printing technique.
The technique utilizes natural shapes and pigments from plants to create patterns on fabric. One of the natural materials used is sappanwood (kayu secang), which can produce shades ranging from red to orange.
This approach gives each creation its own unique character while demonstrating how fashion creativity can go hand in hand with the use of natural materials and Indonesia’s rich local heritage.
Edita Rianti Anastasia, Founder & Director of Edith House, said:
“We believe that every piece of fabric has a story, and every individual has their own uniqueness. Through eco-printing, we aim to bring the beauty of nature into our creations. Our collaboration with THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa, POTADS Community, and Madda Craft 1432 gives deeper meaning to our work, as fashion is not merely something to wear, but also a medium to convey messages of creativity, diversity, and inclusion.”
Turning Waste into Meaningful Products with Madda Craft 1432
Beyond fashion, the collaboration introduced another perspective on creativity and sustainability through Madda Craft 1432, a local MSME founded by Ikke Achmad.
Madda Craft 1432 is known for functional fashion accessories such as clutches and wallets, made by repurposing discarded toothpaste packaging and transforming it into useful and valuable products.
Adding to its sustainability approach, the products incorporate elements of Indonesian cultural identity through the use of traditional woven fabrics (kain tenun) as part of their designs. The combination of recycled materials and traditional elements creates products that carry not only functional value, but also aesthetic and cultural significance.
The participation of Edith House and Madda Craft 1432 in the initiative represents how local MSMEs can drive innovation through creativity, cultural heritage, and environmental awareness.
As part of the continuation of this collaboration, Edith House creations and Madda Craft 1432 products will be showcased at the Merchandise Corner located in the lobby of THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa. The space provides hotel guests and members of the public with an opportunity to discover and appreciate local creative works brought together through this collaboration.
Independence as an Opportunity to Create
For THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa, the collaboration forms part of its effort to give deeper meaning to independence through experiences that create a positive impact on the community.
Eva Rosdiana, General Manager of THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa, said:
“For us, independence is not only about celebration, but also about how we create equal spaces and opportunities for everyone to express their creativity. Through Celebrate Creativity and Inclusion, we want to show that everyone has potential and a story that deserves to be appreciated. We are also proud to support the local creations of Edith House while collaborating with POTADS Community and Madda Craft 1432 to create a meaningful experience.”
She added that collaboration between communities and creative practitioners is one way for the hospitality industry to create experiences that are more relevant and connected to society.
Bringing the Value of Inclusion to the Dining Table
Following the fashion show, the program continued with a table manner at Dwangsa9 Indonesian Restaurant.
Children and companions from POTADS Community were introduced to dining etiquette, the proper use of tableware, and basic etiquette at the dining table.
Held in a warm and interactive atmosphere, the participants enthusiastically followed the table manner session, starting from the appetizer and main course to dessert. Beyond gaining new knowledge, they also enjoyed a social experience that could become part of their positive memories from the event.
For THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa, the session further expands the meaning of hospitality—that a meaningful experience is not only about facilities and service, but also about creating opportunities to learn, experience something new, and make lasting memories for the children of POTADS Community.
Hospitality Connecting Creativity and Inclusion
Greta Indri, Marketing Communication Manager of PHM Hotels, also expressed her appreciation for the collaboration.
“Hospitality is fundamentally about making everyone feel welcomed and valued. Collaborations like this remind us that the hospitality industry has a role that goes beyond simply providing services to guests. We can contribute to creating inclusive spaces, supporting communities, and providing opportunities for local talents and creative practitioners to grow.”
Through “Celebrate Creativity and Inclusion,” THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa, Edith House, POTADS Community, and Madda Craft 1432 demonstrate how the spirit of independence can be expressed through collaboration that gives everyone the opportunity to participate and create.
From inclusive fashion and support for local MSMEs, to the use of sustainable materials and table manners education, the initiative reflects how independence can be celebrated through simple yet meaningful actions that create a tangible impact.
For THE 1O1 Jakarta Sedayu Darmawangsa, this spirit is part of its ongoing journey to deliver hospitality that is inclusive, human-centered, sustainable, and meaningful for everyone.
