Vans, a sports brand and a symbol of creativity in expression since 1966, is proud to present an event with the theme Vans 'THIS IS THE SK8-HI'! This event is part of the “Classic Since Forever” global campaign and activation series that completes THE SK8-HI®, a Vans silhouette whose real name is STYLE 38 and introduced since 1978 as the High-Top skate shoe. Featuring a protective foam ankle as well as a more reinforced forefoot, the SK8-HI is the second shoe to feature the iconic Vans Sidestripe, and will always be a symbol of its “OFF THE WALL” culture.
In line with the global campaign, Vans Indonesia is proud to present Absar Lebeh (Pro Skater/Musician) and Ykha Amelz (Illustrator) as representatives of local heroes to create a local version of the Vans SK8-HI campaign, and feature Ykha and Absar on the main visuals in the store Vans throughout Indonesia.
Ykha Amelz is a Digital Illustrator who started her career since 2018. “I fell in love with illustration since I was 3 years old, one of my core memories was just drawing tangled threads and then suddenly I thought of drawing eyes, and I enjoyed seeing it myself. That was the moment that I remember the most, how I felt that I could be so excited from drawing activities,” answered Ykha Amelz when explaining the beginning of her career journey. Her work is always inspired and synonymous with her favorite dog "Babbot", making Ykha have very high flying hours because of her unique work. One of Ykha Amelz's creations for Vans Indonesia is a mural that can be seen on the walls of Vans Indonesia outlets.
Since he was in junior high school, skateboarding has opened doors for Absar Lebeh to visit and learn about the culture of other countries, which he really enjoys. Idolizing Geoff Rowley, the legendary Vans rider from England, Absar himself has finally joined Vans Indonesia since 2018. Absar is also known as a musician, and one of his bands, namely Mooner, took part in the 2019 House of Vans Yogyakarta.
The series of SK8-HI activations and campaigns will then be celebrated through the "THIS IS THE SK8-HI" event and will be held on Thursday, 24 November 2022, at MBloc Space Jakarta, Jl. Panglima Polim no 37 South Jakarta. Featuring the Vans History Wall exhibition "Classic Since Forever", Vans Photobox Service, Ring Toss Game, and SK8-HI Installation inspired by Indonesian culture in the Mbloc Space Lobby. Vans is also holding another Vans Skate Clinic in the Mural Area, Mbloc Space which is open to the public and will be led directly by Absar Lebeh and other Indonesian Vans Riders.
"THIS IS THE SK8-HI" also held a special closed event session for Vans Wholesalers, Media, and KOL which was filled with a Totebag Print Workshop using special artwork made by Ykha
Amelz, as well as the Rug Making Workshop from LOCARPET and will be closed with a performance by Ali,
