Tjap 1000 Tahun

First things first, who doesn’t love the joy of slurping up a hearty bowl of noodles with an array of seasonings and oils? Whether we’re curling up with a takeaway bowl or strolling the sunny streets of the city during your leisure time or Sunday work-out, sometimes noodles can be the savior.

Hidden Away: Tjap 1000 Tahun is Where Your Cravings for Chinese-Style Noodles Fulfilled in South Jakarta

As a staple in Asian cuisine, noodle is well-hearted by many.  Although there are many variants of noodles from how it cooked and prepared, Chinese-style noodles is the most known and beloved among noodle lovers. We see the Chinese-style noodles eateries scatter through the vast area of West and North Jakarta. Thinking noodle lovers don't have to bother traveling away to West and North Jakarta, Tjap 1000 Tahun opened its first establishment in South Jakarta back in February.

Enclaved in the residential area around Senopati, Tjap 1000 Tahun's facade really stands out. The white block structure easily captures the eyes by injecting jade color and minimalism concepts to blend old-school and modern feels.

Inside, the hebel brick wall saturated with jade color is the safe place to be where you can see Natal aka Koh Ahau in action preparing orders. Meanwhile, the terrace area gives a warm spot for diners to enjoy a sunny day in Jakarta.

The good news is, Tjap 1000 Tahun is open until very late, 3 am to be exact on any given day. It's not meant to operate full long haul hours from 08:00 am to 03:00 am non-stop but they divide the operational times into 3 sessions. 08:00 to 14:00 for the first session, 15:00 to 21:00 for the second session, and 22:00 to 03:00 for the third session. Another reason why we love Tjap 1000 Tahun is for a satisfying quick grub at days to fulfilling those late-night stomach growls for supper. Their halal noodle menu is served in 3 types from the original (mie halus), chewy (mie karet), to flat (mie lebar), all with different purposes for your cravings. The most basic noodles menu Mie Ayam Original will surely have you slurping happily. It includes your preferred noodles, veggies, fried garlic, steamed chicken, flavorful clear broth, and their signature fossil crackers made from the combination of chicken and shrimp which we believe you'll be screaming for more.

If the steamed chicken from Mie Ayam Original isn't doing anything for you, you can go for Mie Ayam Kombinasi which serves a similar method to the previous one plus they put steamed and minced chicken altogether in a bowl. Don’t forget to add a splash of some extra chili oil, garlic oil, soy sauce, and many other condiments available in one corner to give your noodles dish a bit of a kick on your own.

For those who love all things chili-based, Mie Ayam Chili Oil is a must-try. The real star of the show here is spicy and warm chili oil which coated the entire noodles to perfection. Spicy but still bearable, don't worry. The noodle is best enjoyed after a quick mix and mingle in the broth, oil, and chicken to soak up all that delightfully greasy tangy broth. If you're up for more challenging spicy noodle, Mie Ayam Kuah Mala would be your great deal here.

Aside from excellent noodle dishes, there are also a couple of sides to enhance your meal. Let's say their Gohiong is surprisingly good, a bit different without the thin flaky tissue on the surface but you best believe you will love wolfing down the tasty bounciest texture.

Bakso Goreng is no exception, it's so good with a decent flavor and texture that make you not willing to share. Pangsit Goreng, assuming by the looks, it could be questionable. Yes, we're usually amazed by how extensive and wide the usual pangsit goreng shape is, but Tjap 1000 Tahun takes it to a different style. The wonton skin is tucked elaborately to a certain steamed-wonton-style shape resulting in a mouthful of fried wonton that is easy to chow down with a perfect layered crisp.

At the end, a good refreshing glass of Liang Teh to cool down your body after a heavy meal is just sublime.
