Wellington College Independent School Jakarta (WCIJ) has announced the appointment of Tommy Suryopratomo as a Trustee of the Wellington College Independent School Jakarta Foundation, a strategic move designed to strengthen governance and institutional leadership as the school advances toward its establishment in Jakarta. The school is committed to principled leadership, robust governance, and institutional integrity as the cornerstones of a sustainable educational environment. Therefore, Tommy Suryopratomo will play a pivotal part in guiding governance, ensuring accountability, and supporting the school’s long-term development—while safeguarding trust and integrity as a Foundation Trustee.
“Education has always been deeply personal to me, and through WCIJ, I have the opportunity to contribute to shaping how future generations think, act, and take responsibility within society,” he said. “Through this role, I hope to support strong governance and help build a school that is trusted, joyful, and meaningful for children and families alike.”
The role carries an oversight function that reinforces WCIJ’s credibility as it begins its journey in Indonesia. It also aligns with Indonesia’s long-term aspirations to strengthen human capital through education as Wellington College’s core values—Kindness, Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Responsibility—are positioned as guiding principles in nurturing future generations.
Tan Wee Han, Governor and Chief Executive Officer of Wellington College Education Singapore Group (WCESG), noted that the appointment reflects a disciplined, values-driven approach. “Strong governance and decisive leadership are essential in building a credible educational institution. This appointment reinforces our commitment to establishing Wellington College Independent School Jakarta with transparency, integrity, and long-term responsibility,” he added.

From an academic perspective, WCIJ will adopt Wellington College’s holistic educational philosophy, balancing academic excellence with character development and student wellbeing. This approach, implemented across Wellington College schools worldwide, will be thoughtfully adapted to the Indonesian context.
“Our focus is on ensuring that every child feels seen, valued, and appropriately challenged—supported by educators who cultivate curiosity and personal growth,” emphasised Melissa Meyers, Founding Head of School of WCIJ.
WCIJ forms part of the global Wellington College education network, founded in England more than 165 years ago. The school is currently undergoing developments in BSD City, with a clear focus on delivering internationally benchmarked education, values-led leadership, and responsible governance.
