PURANA 17 Renjana Perca: Redefining Sustainable Luxury & Circular Fashion

Celebrating 17 years of artistic co-creation, PURANA transforms Grand Indonesia’s East Atrium into an eco-conscious cultural movement.

Walking into the East Atrium of Grand Indonesia this week feels remarkably different from the typical retail bustle. Sculpted columns crafted entirely from structured, recycled cardboard rise gracefully into the light-filled hall, creating an organic, sanctuary-like environment that commands immediate pause. This immersive spatial installation, designed by lead artist Arief Susanto and built by DusDukDuk, sets the scene for "PURANA 17: Renjana Perca"—a milestone cultural takeover running from August 14 to August 23, 2026. Celebrating seventeen years at the intersection of Indonesian craftsmanship and modern design, the home-grown fashion house is turning its anniversary into a nationwide call for circular luxury.

Coinciding with Indonesian Independence Month, the project centers around the philosophy of Kemerdekaan Berkarya—the creative freedom to innovate while honoring cultural roots. Rather than staging a conventional retrospective, Founder and Chief Creative Officer Nonita Respati has transformed the atrium into an active living ecosystem. Visitors are invited to experience a complete circular cycle, where historical textile waste, pioneering material science, and collaborative fine art converge under one roof.

PURANA Renjana Perca

"For 17 years, PURANA’s philosophy of 'Livable Art' has never been a solitary journey. I have been deeply privileged to work hand-in-hand with extraordinary artists from across Indonesia to translate our nation's rich heritage, flora, fauna, environment, and culture into our signature motifs."

— Nonita Respati, Founder & Chief Creative Officer, PURANA

The Living Archive and Twelve Creative Spirits

Central to the takeover is "The Living Archive," a museum-style gallery woven directly from seventeen years of accumulated fabric waste. To bring this retrospective to life, Nonita reunited with twelve key artists and creative collaborators who have shaped PURANA's pattern history since its inception. The lineup spans industry icons and visionary makers to legendary fine art maestros like Sutjipto Adi.

  • Collaborating Artists: Sutjipto Adi, Ruth Marbun, Agan Harahap, Hendra 'HeHe' Harsono, Sarkodit, Suanjaya Kencut, Anton Afganial, Francisca “Kika” Puspitasari (Kaloka Pottery), Hana Surya (THREADAPEUTIC), Rosyid Akhmadi (Mohoi), Arief Susanto (DusDukDuk), and Savirra Lavinia (FUGUKU).

Each artist has reinterpreted archival textile offcuts into bespoke art objects, proving that scrap material holds boundless narrative power. The surrounding cardboard installation mirrors this zero-waste ideology: designed for 100% modular dismantling, the structure will be fully recycled after the event, leaving near-zero venue waste.

Waste-to-Weave: Circular Innovation on Show

Beyond art installations, the event addresses fashion's ecological footprint through tangible material science. A standout moment from the opening showcases included a live "Waste-to-Weave" demonstration led personally by Nonita Respati. Spectators watched raw post-consumer plastic bottle waste transform into finely spun, soft textile fibers ready for high-end garment weaving.

This commitment to conscious luxury manifests fully in PURANA’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, titled Regal Bloom, introduced on the atrium runway. Designed for the modern, audacious woman, the collection fuses classical European decorative motifs with traditional Nusantara symbols—yielding striking hybrid textiles like Tartan Parang, Puspa Paisley, Bakung Melati, and Merpati Pelangi across a palette of sage, magenta, turquoise, and rich earthy neutrals.

Highlights from the Runway & Showcase

  • Regal Bloom SS27: Crafted entirely from 100% Bemberg™ by Asahi Kasei and TENCEL™ by Lenzing—biodegradable, sustainably sourced botanical fibers offering silk-like drape and breathability.

  • Collaborative Capsule Lines: Exclusive runway launches including PURANA x FUGUKU bags, PURAGRAPH Vol. 2 x PURACA bags (designed by Kika of Kaloka Pottery), and the official runway debut of PURANA KIDS.

  • Renjana Showcase Boutique: A concept space following international fashion week presentation standards. Instead of immediate over-the-counter retail, visitors receive exclusive first-to-preview access to place pre-orders for upcoming seasons, curbing overproduction.

A Shared Movement for Community and Beauty

PURANA Renjana Perca

The initiative reflects a broader alliance across Indonesia's creative and commercial sectors. Host partner Grand Indonesia views the collaboration as an essential step toward normalising circular lifestyle practices in mainstream retail hubs, while sustainability partner ParagonCorp—represented by Wardah—connects the movement to self-expression and cultural growth.

"Together with PURANA through ‘Renjana Perca’, we want to celebrate the spirit of Freedom to Create by supporting local talent and artistry to keep growing, evolving, and taking Indonesian stories even further."

— Elsa Maharani, Senior Head of Strategic Brand Growth, ParagonCorp

Every day of the two-week takeover offers hands-on engagement for the public. A schedule of 14 daily community workshops allows guests to dive directly into sustainable living—covering intimate masterclasses in upcycled crafting, traditional Jamu brewing, personal color analysis, and mindful home dining styling.

By uniting fine artists, material innovators, retail partners, and local visitors, "PURANA 17: Renjana Perca" establishes a compelling benchmark for Southeast Asian fashion. It demonstrates that true luxury lies not in excess, but in the longevity of community, respect for materials, and the enduring freedom to create.
