We sat down with Antoine, who shared insights into his extensive experience and his vision and mission for Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta City Centre.
Can you share your career journey, highlighting the key experiences that led you to your current role as General Manager at Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta City Centre?
I started my career in 2003 in Paris, France, as a bellman. I worked in Paris until 2011, holding various positions, mostly in room division and finance. After this initial seven to eight years of experience, I went back to school and pursued a Master's degree in Hospitality Management.
Following my studies, I came to Indonesia in 2011 and began my career as a General Manager. This was my first role as a General Manager. In 2015, I joined Accor, continuing my journey in Indonesia. I left Indonesia in 2019, only to return in 2023 for the opening of Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta City Centre.

What is your leadership philosophy, and how do you plan to apply it in managing the teams?
To me, my role as a manager is to ensure that every team member operates in the best possible conditions, empowering them to perform at their highest potential and achieve their goals. It is essential that each individual feels comfortable, supported, and has clarity in their responsibilities.
Creating an environment where everyone understands the vision and aligns with our common goals is vital for the success of our hotel. By fostering this clarity and support, we build a cohesive team that works together toward shared accomplishments.
There are so many hotel openings in Jakarta, what strategies do you believe are essential for enhancing the guest experiences, especially in a competitive market like Jakarta?
I believe the most important aspect is to always rely on and emphasize our brand. In a competitive market with numerous hotels and diverse offerings, every property has its own unique identity. It is essential to highlight what Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta City Centre represents, what sets it apart from other hotels, and what guests can uniquely expect to experience with us. By focusing on our brand’s distinct qualities, we ensure that our guests recognize and value the exceptional experiences that Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta City Centre provides compared to other properties.
What do you consider the most significant challenges facing the hospitality industry today, and how do you plan to address them in your new role?
To me, sustainability is a critical focus not only in the hospitality industry but globally. It is essential to adopt more sustainable practices, and this is something we prioritize here. For example, we have eliminated single-use plastics, implemented solar panels to support our electricity needs, and established recycling and food waste programs.
The hospitality industry has a significant role to play in advancing sustainable practices, contributing creatively to the fight against global warming, and reducing pollution. By leading these efforts, we can create a meaningful impact and set an example for others to follow.
What suggestions and advice would you offer to young individuals who aspire to build a career in the hospitality industry?
Hospitality is one of the rare industries where the opportunities for growth are nearly limitless. Most managers, general managers, and leaders began their careers in junior positions, which is not something you often see in other fields. In this industry, passion, hard work, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to growth can truly pave the way for success.
Another unique aspect of hospitality is the incredible diversity of professions and expertise it encompasses under one roof. Whether someone is an accountant, a housekeeper, a technician, an electrician, or holds another role, they can find opportunities to work, grow, and thrive in this field. The potential for development in hospitality is as diverse as the people and roles that make it thrive.
How would you describe the current state of Jakarta’s hospitality market, and what opportunities or challenges do you foresee?
Indonesia presents a highly dynamic market. The growth in hotel openings reflects a rising demand, driven by the expanding economy in both Indonesia and the ASEAN region. This growth creates abundant opportunities for the hospitality industry to flourish and meet the increasing demand for accommodations.
However, with these opportunities come challenges. It is crucial to ensure that development remains sustainable, providing long-term benefits through responsible practices. Additionally, maintaining a strong brand identity and offering unique experiences to the market are essential to stand out in an increasingly competitive landscape. By addressing these challenges, we can continue to grow and contribute meaningfully to the industry's evolution.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of your professional responsibilities?
During my free time, I prioritize spending quality moments with my family as much as possible. Beyond that, I indulge in my hobbies, which include cooking, reading, and staying active through sports. I make it a point to go to the gym regularly and enjoy practicing tennis, swimming, and football. These activities not only bring me joy but also help me maintain a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
What do you foresee for the hospitality industry in 2025?
The hospitality industry, particularly in Indonesia and Jakarta, is projected to continue its growth. Indicators such as increasing numbers of travelers, events, and exhibitions will drive demand for hospitality services. In addition to business travel, there is a growing interest in staycations, with people increasingly enjoying new experiences at hotels. I foresee 2025 as a year of significant growth and development for the hospitality industry.
What is your vision for the future plan of Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta City Centre over the next few years, and how do you plan to achieve it?
