Over the years, as Jakarta’s leading five-star, luxury hotel, InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah has continuously collected one prestigious award after another. But being the best requires constant progress. Especially in a highly competitive market like the capital of Indonesia. And one of the best ways to improve on excellence is to appoint a seasoned specialist.
The latest addition to InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah’s all-star team of hospitality experts hails from Hamburg, Germany. Benjamin Paetz began his professional adventure in the food and beverage industry in his hometown in Germany. After four stints in Hamburg, his foray into the wonderful world of gourmet food and fine wines took him across the globe to a vineyard in Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand.
“I have always been working in the F&B industry,” shares the gregarious food connoisseur who spent two years in New Zealand before moving to Asia. “My years in Bangkok taught me the most about how to provide the best products and services in the culinary industry. It was the most important assignment in my career,” he adds.
His first affair with Indonesia began in Jakarta in 2020. And after a quick stopover in the Maldives, the keen traveller is now back in one of his most favourite cities in Asia. “I like Jakarta a lot because the F&B scene is colourful and developing rapidly,” says Benjamin who is now the Operations Manager at InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah.
On top of heading the day-to-day operations of the luxury hotel’s F&B department, Benjamin has also been tasked to level up InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah’s already-elite lineup of F&B experiences, which include its luxury wedding and banquet products and services.
Known for its premium lunch and dinner buffets, as well as its unforgettable Sunday brunches, the award-winning Sugar & Spice will see exciting upgrades to its highly popular themed nights, such as the Wagyu Dinner on Thursdays, the Seafood Night on Fridays, the South American BBQ on Saturdays - as well as the brunch every Sunday. Additionally, the all-day dining restaurant will also boast an exclusive private dining room soon. Meanwhile, the hotel’s authentic Japanese teppanyaki joint, Shio, and its beautiful lounge at the lobby will be given thorough facelifts. The goal is to transform InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah to become Jakarta’s new and exhilarating dining capital.
