CONNECT TO RECONNECT WITH TANJUNG KELAYANG RESERVE

Exploring the Evolving Story of the Belitung Archipelago

Across the Belitung Archipelago, time moves at a quieter rhythm. Granite formations rise from luminous waters, islands scatter across open horizons, and the landscape reveals itself gradually rather than all at once. Within this landscape, Tanjung Kelayang Reserve continues to define a more considered approach to destination development, one that invites return, familiarity, and a deeper connection to place.

“Connect to Reconnect” reflects a more considered way of engaging with the destination, where presence deepens perspective and familiarity reveals new layers over time. Rather than offering a single moment of discovery, it speaks to an experience that unfolds gradually, shaped by space, rhythm, and a quieter sense of awareness.

For some, it marks a first encounter defined by openness and stillness. For others, it becomes a place to return to, with each visit offering a different understanding of the landscape and its surroundings. Connection builds gradually over time, encouraging a more intentional way of moving through the archipelago.

Now Closer Than Ever

The Belitung Archipelago moves closer into view for Singapore travellers this May, as Scoot introduces direct flights from Singapore to Belitung starting 3 May 2026, bringing one of Indonesia’s most quietly captivating coastal destinations within an hour’s flight from the city. With both arrival and departure scheduled in the morning, the service opens up a full day to explore from the moment of landing. Operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays, flights depart Singapore at 05:45 and arrive in Belitung at 06:15, with return flights departing at 06:50 and landing in Singapore at 09:30.

To mark the launch of this new route, Tanjung Kelayang Reserve introduces a limited-time offer designed around the early morning arrival, including guaranteed early check-in, breakfast upon arrival, and seamless airport transfers, allowing the experience to begin from the moment guests land. For Singapore travellers, this direct connection offers more than convenience. It presents an alternative to more saturated beach destinations, where the experience is shaped as much by open landscapes as it is by the sea.

Shaped by Landscape, Grounded in Culture

Within Tanjung Kelayang Reserve, preservation remains central to how the destination continues to grow. Spanning approximately 350 hectares and forming part of a UNESCO Global Geopark, over 50% of the area is designated as a natural reserve, allowing coastal, forest, and marine ecosystems to exist in balance. This clarity of landscape shapes how the destination is experienced, from the Reserve’s conservation-led vision to the presence of Sheraton Belitung Resort, which strengthens the island’s premium hospitality offering.

Beyond the landscape, Belitung’s identity remains rooted in its living culture. Familiar names such as Warung Kopi Ake, established in 1911, reflect a coffee culture that has grown from a daily ritual into a defining part of local life. It continues to serve as a gathering point shaped by continuity across generations, with stories, routines, and social connections unfolding over time. This sense of continuity carries through to Sepiak Belitong, a locally rooted textile brand that draws from the island’s natural forms and cultural references. Motifs inspired by simpor leaves, coastal landscapes, and native flora translate Belitung into material form, offering a different way of understanding the island while supporting a more inclusive and community-driven approach to craft.

Expanding the Island Narrative

As Belitung continues to evolve, its story extends beyond leisure travel. The presence of Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) Indonesia, part of a globally recognised endurance cycling series, with this year’s race hosted in Belitung on 21 June 2026, signals a growing role within the international cycling circuit. The race introduces a different rhythm across the island through routes that trace coastal roads and open landscapes, reflecting a shift towards longer, more active journeys, supported by an evolving hospitality ecosystem and a long-term vision shaped with care and intention.

Alongside growing momentum across the island, improved connectivity is beginning to reshape how Belitung is reached. The journey becomes more immediate, yet its character remains unchanged. With Scoot’s upcoming direct connection from Singapore, the archipelago moves closer to the region while retaining its sense of distance from the pace of nearby cities. A more calibrated gateway begins to take shape, encouraging longer stays, repeat visits, and deeper engagement with the landscape and its surrounding communities.

Through this evolving perspective, Tanjung Kelayang Reserve offers a closer look at how the Belitung Archipelago continues to unfold, quietly and deliberately, while remaining grounded in the qualities that define it.
