Butter Baby Unveils the Story Behind Its Iconic Character Through the Premiere of Original Animated Short Film “The Story of Butterlandia”

For the first time in the history of an Indonesian dessert brand, Butter Baby hosted the cinema premiere of its original animated short film, The Story of Butterlandia, at CGV FX Sudirman, Jakarta. More than just a product launch, the event marked the official unveiling of an entire universe—the origins of its beloved character, its mission, and the world that has long been hinted at through the brand’s experiences.

Screened exclusively during the Press Conference & Cinema Premiere, the animated short introduces Butterlandia, the home world of Butter Baby and the foundation of the characters, stories, and mission behind the brand. Through the film, Butter Baby reveals that behind its widely recognized character lies an ever-expanding universe and a journey that is only just beginning.

The film uncovers the mission at the heart of the Butter Baby universe: an urgent quest to collect 500 trillion tons of butter in order to save Butterlandia, the home planet of Butter Baby, which is slowly fading away.

"Butter Baby started with a simple idea: how do you create something that makes people feel connected? We have known and loved Indonesia for more than 12 years, from our time in Sumba to eventually living and working in Jakarta for over four years. We chose Indonesia not because of opportunity, but because we believe it is the best place to build something lasting. From there, we began creating characters, stories, and a world that gradually evolved into Butterlandia. This isn't a story created from the outside; it was born here, in this city, alongside the community that has grown with us since day one. This animated film is our way of saying: this is the foundation. This is where it all began," said Nick Burch and Henry Burch, Founders of Butter Baby.

Since its debut in Jakarta, Butter Baby has continued to evolve into a Global IP, built through storytelling, experiences, and community. According to Shane Lewis, CEO of Butter Baby, that growth has been driven by the relationship formed between the character and the people who follow its journey.

"For many people, the product may be their first introduction to Butter Baby—but what keeps them coming back is not only the quality and taste, but also the world and stories behind it. I’ve cooked around the world and across Indonesia for more than 20 years, from the AMAN Group to NIHI Sumba, and I know one thing: nowhere else in the world has the richness of flavors and culture that Indonesia does. This brand is not just about a character—and Butter Baby has never been only about a character or our products. It’s about the universe we are building to bring Indonesia’s stories, spirit, and culinary richness to the world. This marks the moment we begin taking that mission beyond Indonesia, and Bangkok is our first step," said Shane.

For Butter Baby, the world of Butterlandia serves not only as a storytelling backdrop but also as a platform for building emotional connections with its community.

"We built Butter Baby for people who want to be part of something real—not just to buy a product, but to join a journey that continues to evolve. What makes Butter Baby different is that it grows alongside us. Every new experience it encounters on Earth, every emotion it feels, every moment it lives through, and every new world it discovers helps shape who it becomes. Just like us. Butter Baby is a reflection of the human experience: learning to navigate an unfamiliar world while searching for a place where you belong. And that reflection has been created by Indonesian talent—99% of our team is Indonesian, from creators and designers to operations. From here, we are only getting started," said Karen Tjahja, Head of Marketing & Business Development at Butter Baby.

The same storytelling philosophy is translated into every Butter Baby product. For Chef Dedy Sutan, each dessert is about more than taste—it is about creating a familiar and comforting feeling.

"Every dessert at Butter Baby begins with one question: what does truly great food feel like? Not just technically, but food that makes us feel something. Food that reminds us of home. Food that brings comfort. Butter Baby may be far from its own home, and through every dessert we create together, we strive to deliver that same feeling—warmth, comfort, and a sense that everything will be okay. And I believe that is also what Indonesia brings to the world through Butter Baby. Not just flavor, but a feeling of belonging," said Chef Dedy Sutan, Corporate Executive Chef of Butter Baby.

As a sneak peek of what’s next, Butter Baby will open its fifth store on June 19, 2026, at CGK Airport Terminal 3, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Departure Area. However, this is more than just another store opening—it is a statement of intent from the brand.

An eight-meter landmark installation will stand in one of Southeast Asia’s busiest airports—not in the Arrival Hall, but in the Departure Area. Butter Baby’s journey began here, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The statue stands in the Departure Area not because Butter Baby is leaving Indonesia behind, but because Indonesia is part of every step it takes into the world.

For Butter Baby, June 19 is not simply the opening of a new store—it is a departure.

Through The Story of Butterlandia, Butter Baby opens the door to the next chapter of its journey—an expanding universe that will continue to grow alongside the community that has been part of its story since day one.
