For almost three centuries, Barton & Guestier has gone through a journey of quality wine-making. This journey started in 1725 when Irishman Thomas Barton arrived in Bordeaux to start his own winehouse for almost eight decades until his grandson Hugh made their partnership with Frenchman Daniel Guestier official, and gave birth to today’s most iconic French wine brand, Barton & Guestier.
After a complicated 2021 vintage, 2022 brings the promise of an overall quality harvest. The year was marked by drought and heat, of course, but that spared the vines from diseases. Wine production in France is estimated at 44.6 million hectoliters, 18% higher than the historically low 2021 vintage and 4% higher than the five-year average (2017-2021).
Due to B&G's involvement in sustainability and its collaboration with the Environmental Management System for Bordeaux wines, its property Chateau Magnol was certified ISO 14001 in 2013; The Château received the High Environmental Value designation in 2017 for its 2016 vintage , which certifies that the estate has aspects of biodiversity and that environmental pressure is kept to a minimum.
The harvest at Chateau Magnol was conducted in a very calm manner towards the ending of an unusual year marked by drought and high temperatures. The vines displayed exceptional vigor. The grapes had very ripe pips, thick, tannin-rich skins, and a notably dense, sugar-rich pulp. As a result, the wines unleash rich and highly fruity flavors.
Overall, the 2022 harvest took place relatively early in France due to the extremely hot weather conditions with very ripe fruit and small berries.
Fermentations are under way and the wines are promising, displaying good balance and superb aromatic complexity.
