Archipelago Hotels Transforms Rooms for Children Battling Cancer
Archipelago Cancer Care Initiative donation brings a makeover to two rooms at the Indonesian Children’s Cancer Care Foundation, supported by 12 hotels across East Java
Continuing the Archipelago Cancer Care Initiative, Archipelago Hotels, the largest privately owned hotel management group in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, has returned to the Indonesian Children’s Cancer Care Foundation (Yayasan Peduli Kanker Anak Indonesia/YPKAI) in Surabaya to transform two bedrooms at the foundation’s halfway house.
Funds raised by Archipelago Hotels’ Corporate Office together with 22 hotels across East Java have been channeled not only as monetary donations, but also into tangible support designed to provide lasting benefits for children in need.
The room makeover involved 12 Archipelago Hotels properties across East Java, with support from General Managers, Human Resources, Housekeeping, Engineering teams, and sponsors.
For children and families undergoing cancer treatment, a halfway house is more than just a temporary place to stay. It is also a space to rest, play, and spend time together as a family. Through this room makeover, Archipelago Hotels aims to provide support that can be felt in the children’s daily lives, while creating a space that brings warmth, helps maintain their spirits throughout treatment, and nurtures hope for a brighter future.

“In the hospitality industry, our expertise lies in creating spaces where people feel comfortable and cared for. We wanted to bring that expertise to a place where it is truly needed. Care should not end when an activity is over, which is why we chose to improve the spaces that children use every day. We hope these rooms will also help strengthen their spirit as they continue their journey toward recovery,” said John Flood, Chief Executive Officer of Archipelago Hotels.

Collaboration Behind the Makeover
The program was carried out by Archipelago Hotels together with 12 properties across East Java, involving various teams based on the needs of the project at YPKAI.
The Human Resources team was responsible for identifying and coordinating the program’s needs, while the Housekeeping team prepared the rooms and their furnishings. The Engineering team ensured that all facilities were in good, safe, and comfortable condition. Each property contributed manpower, supplies, or other forms of support according to its capacity.
Several sponsors, including iCLEAN, Aroma Delivery System, PT. Exinergy Indonesia and Tiga Mutiara, also supported the implementation of the program.
The transformation of the two bedrooms was carried out with the children’s comfort at YPKAI in mind. The work included repainting the rooms, replacing mattresses and bedding such as bed sheets, blankets, and pillowcases, as well as adding new furniture, including wardrobes. The team also upgraded the lighting, added fans and curtains, and carried out several other facility improvements.
