It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas at Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) Lippo Village! There is no better way to come to school and work welcomed by the festivity of Christmas, and this year, something special awaits behind all the adornments. Parents of SPH Lippo Village’s community, known as the Parents Advisory Group (PAG), have been working hard to arrange a special Christmas Market from 2-3 December to raise funds and awareness of the important role of the waste picker community through various activities such as edutainment activities, auctions/raffles, merchandise sales, games, and food & beverages.
At the heart of this Christmas celebration, parents of SPH Lippo Village sought this festive event to share blessings with the waste picker community, as they help protect and clean the environment, despite the condition of their occupation. The funds raised from the two-day event will then be used for PAG social activities in partnership with Mahija Parahita Nusantara, a non-profit organization working to improve the welfare of workers working in the field of waste management.
The whole celebration is one example of the many initiatives from the parent community. At SPH, our parents are very hands-on in advancing the school community, initiating actions that are aligned with the school’s values, and in serving as ambassadors for the SPH’s vision and mission through the various programs they arrange.
The Christmas Market is open to all SPH and the Yayasan Pendidikan Pelita Harapan (YPPH) communities. This Friday evening will cover the peak event of this Christmas Market, which highlights a flash mob by all members of the SPH community; teachers, staff, students, and even parents, as well as a Christmas tree lighting at the end of the day. For two days, there will be performances by students, parents, teachers, and staff, fun carnival games, an hourly raffle draw, curated market vendors, and various food and beverages for families and everyone to enjoy.
This year’s Christmas Market will be a memorable experience to end the year with, as families get to share this moment together and in person! On top of the joyous occasion of celebrating Christmas together, SPH Lippo Village invites the school community to adopt an attitude of giving and sharing, rather than receiving. We get to celebrate together to share the incomparable blessings we already received with those more in need. In accordance with the year’s theme of “Arise & Shine,” this year’s Christmas celebration serves as a reminder to give and share with others, as God has gifted us with the ultimate gift, His One and Only Son
