What’s Going Viral: Stamp Hunting Takes Over MRT & LRT Jakarta

All Aboard the Stamp Hunt

Inspired by Japan’s beloved Eki stamps, Jakarta MRT has rolled out its own version — charming little keepsakes that you can collect at select stations. Think of them as cultural snapshots: beautifully designed rubber stamps that reflect the spirit and heritage of the Betawi people, Jakarta’s native ethnic group.

Currently, you can find these special stamps at three stations: Blok A, Haji Nawi, and Cipete Raya. Why these stations? They're nestled in areas steeped in Betawi tradition — perfect gateways to a cultural deep dive.

Each stamp is unique, so true collectors will want to hit all three stops. At Haji Nawi Station, you’ll get the gigi balang pattern and a ratangga (Jakarta’s iconic MRT train) — a visual reminder that this transportation system also plays a role in preserving tradition. Over at Cipete Raya Station, you’ll find a quirky petai (bitter bean) design paired with a hibiscus backdrop, celebrating both culinary icons and floral flair. And at Blok A, the stamp features a bamboo weave and MRT Jakarta logo, symbolising flexibility and interconnection.

So, How Do You Get One?

It’s refreshingly simple — no apps, no QR codes, just a good old-fashioned paper stamp. Here's what to do:

-Visit the station counter at one of the designated stations

-Ask the friendly MRT officer for a stamp

-Stamp it onto a special sheet provided, or bring your own notebook

-Voilà — you’ve just added a piece of Betawi culture to your collection.

Bonus Round: Dukuh Atas Gets in on the Action

There’s more. The bustling Dukuh Atas area, known for its Transit Oriented Development (TOD), now joins the stamp game. Head over to Dukuh Atas MRT Station or the nearby Transport Hub Building, and you can collect up to four unique stamps: the Integration Node, Ratangga, and #PastiBisa Tertib Bersama stamps at the station, and the Transport Hub stamp at the building.

With each stop, you’re not just collecting ink — you’re capturing the essence of Jakarta’s evolving story, one station at a time.

Pro tip: Make it a weekend adventure. Bring your travel journal, hop on the MRT, and start stamping your way through the city. Who knew cultural preservation could fit so neatly in your pocket?

LRTJ Stamp Hunt

Your daily commute just got a lot more fun. Say hello to LRTJ Wara-Wiri, the latest way to spice up your #NaikLRTJ journey with a nostalgic twist and a dash of city pride.

Starting March 30, 2025, six LRT Jakarta stations are turning into mini treasure hunts, and your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to collect thematic stamps at each one. But don’t expect cookie-cutter designs—each stamp is uniquely crafted to reflect the vibe, history, and personality of its station. Think of it as collecting city souvenirs without even leaving the tracks.

The best part? Complete the set, and you’ll be rewarded with exclusive LRT Jakarta merchandise. Yes, bragging rights and limited-edition goodies.

How to get started?

First of all, the participating stations are Pegangsaan Dua, Boulevard Utara, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, Velodrome. Just stop by any LRT Jakarta station counter for full details and get stamping. Bring your notebook or grab the special stamp sheet from the station. Then ride, explore, and collect all six to become a certified Wara-Wiri champion.

For now, the special stamp paper is exclusively available at Velodrome Station, so if you're planning to start your collection there, you’re in luck. But don’t worry if you're closer to another station—feel free to bring your own notebook or journal to collect the stamps. It’s a flexible system designed for fun.

So what are you waiting for? Hop on the LRT, hunt those stamps, and experience Jakarta’s light rail in a whole new way.
