After nearly 13 years of dormancy, the Jakarta Planetarium and Observatory has officially opened to the public, casting immersive simulations of celestial movements—stars, planets, and other cosmic bodies. The dome-shaped theatre serves as both an educational platform and an engaging entertainment destination for all ages, bringing the wonders of the universe vividly to life.
Since its reopening, public enthusiasm has been nothing short of extraordinary. Visitors have flooded the venue, with many willingly queuing for hours to secure tickets. Some even travel from outside the city, arriving as early as dawn to ensure entry.
Amid this surge of excitement, prospective visitors are encouraged to prepare in advance to fully enjoy the Planetarium experience. Below is a curated guide to what you need to know before visiting Jakarta Planetarium.

2. Exhibition Hall
As a hub for astronomical education, the exhibition space showcases an array of photographs, illustrations, and detailed explanations of celestial bodies. One standout display is a meteorite fragment sample, a tangible connection to outer space.
3. Observatory Theatre
The Planetarium’s observatory allows visitors to observe celestial objects directly through a collection of telescopes. Among the highlights is the renowned ASKO telescope, featuring a 31-centimetre reflective mirror, for a more intimate and detailed view of the cosmos.
4. Stellar Theatre
The crown jewel of the Planetarium invites visitors into a vast domed chamber where a dazzling night sky unfolds overhead. Thousands of shimmering stars create a breathtaking visual spectacle. Through the giant dome screen, guests embark on an educational journey across the solar system, exploring celestial phenomena, stellar lifecycles, and cosmic history in a presentation lasting approximately one hour.

Long known as a favoured destination for educational field trips, Jakarta Planetarium regularly hosts seminars and astronomy-themed workshops. These programs are designed especially for children and students, nurturing curiosity through interactive learning, hands-on activities, games, and simple experiments rarely encountered in traditional classrooms.
Beware of unofficial ticket sellers
Before you choose a show schedule, keep a look out for your tickets! Avoid purchasing tickets through unofficial channels, including social media ticket brokers or so-called “ticket war” concierge services, which pose serious data security risks.
These services commonly request personal data such as ID numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers to participate in online ticket purchases. Any tickets found to be purchased through unofficial means will be automatically cancelled because ticket verification upon entry is mandatory, and tickets must match the registered identification.
Show schedule
Jakarta Planetarium operates Tuesday through Sunday, closing on Mondays. Each day features four shows.
Tuesday–Thursday:
9 AM | 12 PM | 2:30 PM | 5:30 PM
Friday–Sunday:
9 AM | 1 PM | 3 PM | 5:30 PM
Ticket holders are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before the show begins, as late arrivals will forfeit their tickets.
Tickets sold online and offline
Each show offers 185 tickets, as of January 2026, divided into:
- 90 online tickets
- 90 offline (on-site) tickets
- Five tickets reserved for visitors with disabilities
All tickets are priced at Rp10,000. Online tickets can only be purchased via the official platform Loket.com, with a maximum of five tickets per transaction. Moreover, offline tickets are available directly at the Planetarium entrance.
Visitors must bring a valid form of identification—National ID, Child ID, or Student Card—for ticket verification. Any misuse of tickets will result in cancellation without refund.
Remember, recording is strictly prohibited
Recording the show inside the theatre is strictly forbidden, whether using professional cameras or mobile phones. Communication devices are permitted inside the theatre but must remain stored in bags throughout the 45-minute performance.
