6+ Hours Layover in Jakarta To Dos

6+ Hours Layover in Jakarta To Dos

Layovers don’t have to be daunting, coming with uncomfortable sleep, lack of entertainment, and long hours. Regardless of the duration, you can wash away the gloomy layover experience now that most of the world’s airports have a myriad of facilities to keep you afloat. Or simply set foot outside of the airport to see a glimpse of the city.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has three terminals. Terminal 3 serves both international and domestic airlines. Terminals 1 and 2 handle domestic flights; Terminal 1 has sub-terminals A, B, and C; Terminal 2 has sub-terminals D, E, and F. Buses and a Skytrain connect the three terminals free of charge.

6+ Hours Layover in Jakarta To Dos

Jakarta is a metropolis notorious for its bustling and crowded nature. With six or more hours in hand, it could be a gamble to step out of the airport for a little expedition. But we oppose, as long as you stick to one stop.

Before anything, here are some considerations to take note:

  1. Arrival flight

Bear in mind that it would take roughly 40 minutes to an hour to complete your arrival procedure. That includes retrieving your baggage that isn’t checked through the final destination.

  1. Check-in for onward flight

Is your layover including the time you need to report back for check-in for your onward journey? If yes, then, unfortunately, you will have less time.

  1. Transit type

Consider the destination you are transiting to and from, alongside whether you need to change terminals.

  1. Travelling time between the airport and the city

It takes at least 1.5 to two hours to go from the airport to the city centre. Recent reports suggest that Jakarta’s worst times on the roads are from 5 to 7 PM, every day.

  1. Find a luggage storage

A kiosk serves luggage storage services at the Domestic Arrival Terminal at Terminal 3, precisely at Gate 3. The cost starts from Rp50,000 per day for storage of small luggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg. An additional cost of Rp80,000 per day is for electronic objects, such as laptops or cameras. You can also leave sports equipment such as surfboards, diving equipment, golf bags, and bicycles.

If you think those variables are conducive, it’s time to head out!
