Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta proudly celebrates its 62nd anniversary, reflecting on a legacy that began with its establishment as Indonesia’s first five-star hotel. Officially opened by President Soekarno on 5 August 1962, the hotel was designed to be a beacon of national pride and modern elegance. President Soekarno, in collaboration with architect Abel Sorensen, brought this vision to life in just two years, creating a landmark that would greet guests from around the globe during the 4th Asian Games.
Honouring Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta’s Historic Journey
A Grand Celebration of Culture and Collaboration
The anniversary event, themed "Icon of Indonesian Pride," showcases a variety of cultural experiences and collaborations that celebrate Indonesia's rich heritage and contemporary sophistication. Among the highlights is the "Kebaya Kala Kini" exhibition, a joint effort between Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation and Didiet Maulana, the Creative Director of Svarna by IKAT Indonesia. This exhibition, which runs from 15 August to 11 September 2024 in the grand lobby of the hotel, chronicles the evolution of the kebaya, drawing inspiration from Didiet Maulana's book "Kisah Kebaya" and highlighting the garment’s transformation over the years.
On the evening of 27 August 2024, guests will be treated to a vibrant Palang Pintu performance by iForte, leading them from the Signature Terrace to the Bali Room. The event will also include iForte’s Gending Sriwijaya, infusing traditional grandeur into the celebration. Additionally, Indonesian icon Happy Salma will deliver a poignant narrative, while the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Batavia Madrigal Singers, and their Founder and Music Director Avip Priatna will offer captivating musical performances, enriching the cultural festivities.
A Culinary Tribute to Indonesian Heritage, Inspired by Mustikarasa
The anniversary festivities will also feature an exceptional culinary experience inspired by the historic "Mustikarasa" cookbook. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy an Angkringan-themed culinary market, offering a variety of traditional Indonesian flavors, thoughtfully prepared to celebrate the nation's rich gastronomic heritage. The evening will culminate in a luxurious four-course dinner, with each dish representing a modern interpretation of classic East Java flavors, the birthplace of President Soekarno. This culinary tribute not only honors the diversity of Indonesian cuisine but also underscores the hotel’s dedication to preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural legacy through food.
