Tucked away in the labyrinth of Pasar Baru, Bakmi Aboen, a noodle house that has stood the test of time since opening its doors in 1962

Tucked away in the labyrinth of Pasar Baru, every narrow alley seems to whisper stories of the past—and serve up legendary bites along the way. One such institution is Bakmi Aboen, a noodle house that has stood the test of time since opening its doors in 1962.

Hidden Away: Bakmi Aboen Serves Timeless Noodle Comfort in the Heart of Pasar Baru

Hidden at the very end of a narrow lane behind Gang Kelinci, Bakmi Aboen is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. The green-painted exterior and simple signboard offer little hint of the crowds it draws daily. Yet, especially in the morning and during lunch hours, the place is packed with loyal regulars and curious first-timers alike.

Despite its discreet location, the interior tells a different story. Following a renovation, Bakmi Aboen now feels refreshingly modern and comfortable. Fully air-conditioned and thoughtfully designed with contemporary finishes, it’s a cool retreat from the bustle of Pasar Baru outside.

As expected, the star of the show is its non-halal bakmi. Think springy, homemade noodles topped with a generous mix of char siu pork, crispy roasted pork, minced chicken, mushrooms, and beef meatballs, with fried wontons on the side. If you’re ordering for the first time, go straight for the Bakmi Babi Special. The noodles have a signature texture—slightly slick, pleasantly soft, yet resilient—thanks to being made fresh every day. Rich, savoury, and indulgent, this bowl defines comfort eating the old-school Chinese way.

For those who like to go all in, additional sides of char siu or roasted pork (served by the ounce) are available and ideal for sharing. Another crowd favourite is the fried chicken wonton: wide, crisp, and golden, served with a sweet red dipping sauce that keeps you reaching for more.

Beyond noodle, Bakmi Aboen also offers a range of classic Chinese dishes that loyal patrons swear by. The fried selection includes bakmi goreng, bihun, kwetiaw, capcay, fried chicken, and even fried frog for the adventurous. There’s also a comforting lineup of beef meatballs, fish balls, tofu with beef filling, and wonton soup—perfect companions to a hearty bowl of noodles.
