Art Jakarta Gardens has been eagerly anticipated by art enthusiasts as a unique celebration of contemporary art set amidst the lush greenery of Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta. This year, from 23 – 28 April 2024, this one-of-a-kind event will showcase 23 notable galleries alongside 30 captivating outdoor sculptures and installations offering visitors a mesmerising experience that seamlessly blends art and nature.
Conceived in 2022, during the challenging times of the pandemic, Art Jakarta Gardens has flourished into a celebrated annual art event, thanks to the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the art scene. This year, it promises to establish a stronger presence as it continues to attract a wider audience with its attractive approach to showcasing contemporary art. Featuring its signature programme, the Sculpture Garden, the open-air fair will exhibit works from outstanding artists across generations, ranging from the Indonesian modern master G. Sidharta, the famed Nyoman Nuarta, to young artists with creative experiments such as Dian Hardiansyah.
“This third edition of Art Jakarta Gardens makes us happy as the organiser. The participating galleries come with enthusiasm and great spirits, bringing the latest works of the artists they represent, and so do the Partners, who collaborate with artists to bring special installations. And with the music programme and the performance art, the Fair has become a more and more distinct event of art appreciation, enriching the varied art events and entertainments for the public in Jakarta,” remarks Enin Supriyanto, the Fair’s Artistic Director.
The Fair Director Tom Tandio adds, “We hope Art Jakarta Gardens can contribute to the opportunity for young people to learn and be more appreciative of art. In Art Jakarta Gardens, the young generation can get to know art in less formal surroundings and even start collecting. We also encourage more corporations to collaborate with Indonesian artists, whether in Art Jakarta Gardens or other projects, and hope that it will add to stronger support for the art ecosystem.”
Featuring a diverse array of artworks in indoor and outdoor settings, the open-air fair invites the public to appreciate how artworks can enhance their surroundings. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of creativity, exploring a wealth of artistic expressions against the backdrop of Jakarta’s urban oasis, where Hutan Kota by Plataran will be transformed into a dynamic open-air gallery.
The first day of Art Jakarta Gardens will be open for VIP guests only, while the general public will be welcomed starting on Wednesday, 24 April 2024. With auspicious support from across sectors, Art Jakarta Gardens proudly presents admirable collaborations by Partners and artists this year in our Special Presentations.
Art Jakarta Gardens wouldn’t be complete without its public programme comprising eye-opening performance art by the multidisciplinary artist Monica Hapsari and friends, and a special music performance curated and organized by RURUradio Lounge, presented by the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation.
