Yayasan Batik Indonesia (YBI) Proudly Presents Gelar Batik Nusantara 2023

Yayasan Batik Indonesia (YBI) proudly present Gelar Batik Nusantara 2023 (GBN 2023), which was held at Senayan Park, Jakarta on 2 to 6 August 2023. The main theme of GBN 2023 is “Batik, Bangkit!”, aims to raise the spirit and advance the batik industry after 3 years affected by Covid-19 pandemic. YBI want to revive the Indonesian Batik Industry, by providing illustration of Batik Tambal as an icon and reflects the diversity of the beauty of Batik Nusantara.

Recognition from UNESCO through accreditation of intangible cultural heritage (Intangible Cultural Heritage) No. 90487 to YBI as a non-profit foundation, confirming YBI's role in preserving, developing, and promoting the cultural heritage of Indonesian batik nationally and internationally.

One important aspect for the development of batik in Indonesia, with all its uniqueness and the identity of the region of origin, is when Indonesia already has an Indication determination system Geographical. Geographical indication is a sign that shows the area of origin of something goods and/or products due to natural factors, human factors or a combination of both these factors give reputation, quality, and certain characteristics to the goods and/or the resulting product.

Gelar Batik Nusantara

The geographical indication determination system has succeeded in establishing four geographical indication Batik certificates, namely: Pekalongan Batik Sarong, Yogyakarta Nitik Batik, Besurek Batik Bengkulu and Complongan Indramayu written batik.

GBN 2023 highlights the beauty of Complongan Indramayu written batik as one of the Indramayu types of batik that has Geographical Indication recognition. “The beauty of motifs and quality. This batik is a representation of art and cultural skills passed down from generation to generation in the region Indramayu, West Java. This collaboration is expected to increase awareness society towards Indramayu batik which has its own uniqueness.” Diana Santosa, chief executive of the GBN 2023.

GBN 2023 was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Ir. Joko Widodo and was attended by the ranks of the Ministries, as well as 25 Ambassadors as a form of Government support for YBI's mission to preserve Batik Indonesia. The GBN 2023 event is open to the public and will feature more than 250 Indonesian Batik MSMEs booth and also Indonesian cuisine. In addition, this event will also presents a variety of interesting activities, such as talk shows about batik, batik competitions, high tea sessions and fashion shows by 6 Indonesian designers namely Didi Budiarjo, Chossy Latu, Wilson William, Hutama Adi, Priyo Octaviano, Ghea Panggabean who will appoint his work for Batik Indramayu.

Gelar Batik Nusantara

There will be also Charity and Fund Raising in collaboration with the Indonesian Cancer Foundation and the Regional Government of Indramayu which aims to help empower women and cancer sufferers in Indonesia. There is also a Showcasing of Vespa Batik from Piaggio Indonesia which will be auctioned on August 18-20 at the Art Moments Jakarta event. GBN also cooperate with 3 Interior Design Indonesia Agam Riyadi, Anita Boentarman, and Hardian Thomas to manage Batik in Home and Living which can inspire Indonesians to use Batik as part of their home interiors. Closing the entire series of GBN 2023 events, a 5K Fun Walk and Run will be held. YBI always appreciates Indonesian Batik UMKM, this is strengthened by always giving awards to Batik UMKM who care about the development of Indonesian Batik named "Kriya Pusaka". This year YBI will also give the award to Indonesian Batik UMKM.

By holding GBN 2023, YBI invites all parties, both from domestic and international, to attend and participate in the Indonesian Batik Exhibition 2023 (GBN 2023). Let's support the preservation and progress of the batik industry in Indonesia, as well as celebrating and advancing our rich cultural heritage for the Indonesian batik industry, increasing public awareness about the diversity of Indonesian batik, as well as inviting the younger generation to start appreciating elements of batik in daily activity.
