Global Sevilla Pulomas successfully held a musical drama "All it takes is… One Good Deed" at the Global Sevilla Pulomas School Auditorium, East Jakarta, on Friday, June 9, 2023. Interestingly, this musical is a series of graduation events that are usually held once a year.
Global Sevilla Pulomas Students Play an Annual Musical Drama 'All it takes is… One Good Deed'
The lovely kindergarten students brought an exciting tale to life. It is about the experiences of four high-spirited students who visit the library. They get bored with just reading, so they start wandering around until they find themselves locked in a Forbidden Room. How they get out of this Forbidden Room is the main highlight of the musical drama.
Purborini Sulistiyo, Head of School Pulomas said that this musical drama is a holistic form of balanced education between academic and non-academic fields. "Our school is a balanced education, so we have to focus on not only academics, but also character development, mindfulness, and other talents. We hope that this concept can continue. Not everyone is a genius in mathematics, language, science, performing arts, sports, and many others. They also have to do sports activities. But in this activity, all the children will participate, so even though they don't like to dance, they will be exposed, and they have to have experience in dancing. It's not like they have to be good at dancing, but at least they take part in it."
All musical drama activities are also supported by the teachers and of course full support from the parents of students who are familiar with this annual activity. “We have an annual show at every level, so the parents are used to it every year. We have an annual show in high school, elementary school, and secondary school. In the end, they are proud to see their children in front of them,” added Purborini.
On why the musical drama 'All it takes is… One Good Deed' was chosen this year, Krishna Mazumder, Kindergarten Principal Pulomas explained "This year, 'All it takes is… One Good Deed' is our musical play during our K2 graduation, just to make the graduates feel good and we want to celebrate their graduation. We do this annual show every year. But because of COVID-19 for the last couple of years, we couldn't do it so well. We were just doing drive-thru graduation, but we could not do a proper annual show. This is after four years, after 2019, again, we have come back and we are doing a proper annual show along with the vendors."
'All it takes is… One Good Deed' was opened a ballet performance, tae kwon do performance, and modern dance performance, and then the musical drama started. The four high-spirited students are locked in a Forbidden Room. They need to do one good deed by helping the main characters solve the problem in a series of fairy tale stories such as Little Red Riding Hood, The Elves and the Shoemaker, and lastly The Great Big Turnip.
K2 level kids took part as the main roles, also fully supported by children from toddler, pre-nursery, nursery, and K1 levels students. “We had to do it on stage like we had to teach the main cast first, the parts they have to play, and before that, we did the recording of the voices of the main cast. After we identified who is going to do what, we recorded their voices for the part, and then after that, we taught them, each one of them, each sentence, of how to say, how to deliver, and look at the audience, or how to stand, or how to move, and all that. And then the dances were simultaneously prepared by the younger classes, and then we put together the dances and the drama for, say, the last 15 days and then we started making the props and then together we just did with the props with the dances with the main cast maybe just 3 days,” added Krishna.
This musical drama event was also enlivened by the Food & Beverages Bazaar at the Secondary Canteen area and an exciting Product and Services Bazaar on the 4th Floor in front of the Auditorium.
“Because we are a mindful-based school and we really inculcate character building from a very young. So I think, I mean we thought that the values and the character-building should be taught from a very young age. So from kindergarten, they should be knowing how to give turns, how to take turns, how to give a place for others, how to be waiting for others, how to be compassionate toward others,” closed Krishna.
