For the first in the series leading to the AmChams of Asia Pacific DC Door Knock, members will meet with the staff of the select committee to discuss their policy recommendations intended to reduce the United States’ economic and technological ties with China.

On December 12, the Select Committee adopted a broad set of policy recommendations intended to reduce the United States’ economic and technological ties with China across a broad swath of the economy. The report is organized around three pillars:

  1. “Reset the Terms of Our Economic Relationship with the PRC”
  2. “Stem the Flow of U.S. Capital and Technology Fueling the PRC’s Military Modernization and Human Rights Abuses”
  3. “Invest in Technological Leadership and Build Collective Economic Resilience in Concert with Allies”

Several of the Committee’s recommendations, such as specific reforms to the CFIUS process, have already been introduced as legislation by lawmakers in the past year. Many of these proposals are likely to be introduced/reintroduced. This report and its specific recommendations can serve as a framework to understand the trajectory of US-China relations going forward.

The briefing will be led by James Cunningham, Congressional Affairs and Communications Director, who leads the Select Committee’s outreach to Congress, the press, and the public, and will be moderated by Steven Okun, Senior Advisor, McLarty Associates.

The session is closed door and open to any member of any AmCham in the region. You may register through the button below.
