Comprehensive Sustainability & Community Efforts
Environmental Stewardship
Green Globe Certification
In June 2025, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali proudly achieved the prestigious Green Globe Certification, recognizing the resort’s outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
Heat Pumps
The resort utilizes energy-efficient heat pump technology for water heating, space heating, and swimming pool heating. By harnessing natural heat energy from the air, water, or soil, heat pumps transfer heat into warmer spaces using the same principle as a refrigerator but in reverse. This innovation significantly reduces energy consumption compared to conventional heating systems.
Solar Panels
Solar panel installations across the resort further support clean energy use, enabling electricity savings of up to 30% every month. The initiative also aligns with the Indonesian government’s energy transition program and reinforces the resort’s reputation as a green and sustainable destination. Installation is efficient and cost-free, making solar power both an environmentally and economically responsible choice.
Food & Beverage Initiatives
Local Sourcing: Nearly 95% of ingredients at Ikan restaurant are sourced locally, with recipes inspired by traditional Balinese favorites. Food Waste Segregation: A comprehensive waste-segregation program implemented in partnership with Kelompok Mekar Sari ensures proper recycling of wet and dry waste. Zero-Waste Cocktails: Creative use of overripe fruits and wine remnants transforms potential waste into memorable beverage experiences.
Resource Conservation & Waste Reduction
Plastic-Free Amenities: Guest toiletries and amenities now use biodegradable, non-plastic packaging (e.g., wheat-based toothbrushes and combs).
Composting Initiative
For food waste that cannot be redistributed, the resort operates an Aerobic Digester, an innovative machine capable of transforming organic waste into nutrient-rich compost within just one day. This technology, developed by Shiva Industries—a Bali-based company founded by Australian entrepreneur Tobias Wilson—enables the resort to divert significant amounts of organic waste from landfills while creating valuable compost to enrich our gardens and landscapes.
Sustainable Community & Education Engagement
Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Partnership The resort works hand-in-hand with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) to collect surplus yet perfectly edible food from our daily breakfast buffet and events at the Bali International Convention Centre. This ongoing initiative helps reduce food waste while sharing nutritious meals with communities in need.
Marriott Bonvoy Good Travel Program
Through Marriott Bonvoy’s global Good Travel platform, the resort champions community engagement. Guests are invited to connect with students of SLB Negeri 1 Badung, a school for children with disabilities, by sharing stories, spending meaningful time, and inspiring them to dream big. The resort has also supported the school by upgrading its computer and music rooms, providing children with valuable resources to strengthen their learning, creativity, and digital skills.
