The Café Lotus Introduces Two New Dining Experiences

Facing the iconic Ubud Water Palace, The Café Lotus introduces Bale Lesehan and the Rooftop, two new dining spaces offering different ways to experience the cultural heart of Ubud.

Inspired by the Indonesian tradition of lesehan, Bale Lesehan invites guests to dine on comfortable floor seating around a low table, creating an intimate and relaxed atmosphere that celebrates togetherness and sharing. Set within a traditional Balinese bale, the space is dedicated to the Lotus Royal Rijsttafel, a sharing feast featuring a selection of authentic Balinese and Indonesian flavours.

For a different perspective, the Rooftop opens onto views of the lotus pond and Ubud Water Palace from above, revealing a side of this familiar Ubud landmark rarely seen from ground level. With 30 seats, the space offers a new setting for Indonesian cuisine and drinks, framed by the temple, lotus pond, and surrounding architecture. In the evening, traditional Balinese dance performances take place every night except Friday, offering the chance to experience the performance from above as music and movement fill the courtyard below.

“These new spaces bring a different way to experience The Café Lotus, and we hope guests can spend time here while discovering the culture and character of this place from a new perspective,” said Wayan Sudiarta, Resort Manager of The Café Lotus.

Since 1983, The Café Lotus has been a place where dining and the cultural life of Ubud naturally come together. Bale Lesehan and the Rooftop carry that story forward, adding something new while keeping the connection to place and tradition that has long defined The Café Lotus.
