IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled a first look at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud

IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled a first look at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, set to debut later this year as the luxury lifestyle brand’s highly anticipated arrival in Indonesia. Designed as an extension of Bali’s creative energy, the hotel will embody Kimpton’s signature approach to human hospitality, intuitive service, and design-forward spaces that invite curiosity and connection.

A spark in the heart of Ubud, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud is located at Jalan Bisma and a short walk from Ubud’s iconic landmarks, including the Ubud Art Market and the historic Ubud Palace and Water Palace, which was designed by the Balinese Master Artist, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.

Signature Kimpton perks include the complimentary “Forgot It, We’ve Got It!” program, providing thoughtfully curated travel essentials; Kimpton Kickstart, offering daily coffee, tea, and pastries; and the brand’s celebrated Kimpton Social, an evening gathering designed to spark conversation and connection.

Austin Jones, General Manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, brings extensive experience within the Kimpton family and a deep understanding of lifestyle-led hospitality. Having contributed to nearly a dozen Kimpton properties across the brand, he now leads the debut of Kimpton in Indonesia.

“It’s an honor to introduce Kimpton to Indonesia in a place as culturally rich and creatively alive as Ubud,” said Jones. “Kimpton Suntaya is designed to feel open, soulful, and connected, not just to the landscape, but to the people who live and travel here. We want this hotel to become a vibrant gathering place where guests and locals alike can experience Bali in a way that feels effortless, personal, and unscripted.”

Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will offer 101 thoughtfully designed accommodations, including essential rooms, expansive pool suites, and signature private pool villas.

The culinary program will feature five distinctive dining destinations. At the forefront is Imamura Ubud, an intimate omakase experience led by Michelin-starred Chef Hirofumi Imamura, who also oversees Shaku by Imamura, a refined yet playful interpretation of Japanese izakaya dining.

In a destination known for transformative retreats, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will offer a distinct lifestyle and wellness programming, including a two-story fitness studio and dedicated recovery facilities that introduce a modern movement and contrast-therapy experience, while Sakshi Spa draws from Balinese healing traditions to create rituals that restore both body and perspective.

The name “Suntaya” [pronounced SOON-TIE-yah] reflects both place and philosophy. Inspired by Sanskrit roots with Suniya meaning stillness, and Taya meaning vitality, the name reflects Ubud’s unique rhythm where retreat and gathering exist in equal measure.

Set alongside the Wos River, the hotel draws from the quiet strength of flowing water and the steady rhythm of the land. This balance of calm and energy shapes the experience at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, from its architecture and interiors to the way guests move through the space. The result is a hotel that feels grounded, fluid, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

The architecture of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Balinese ceremonial processions including celebrations defined by movement, rhythm, and collective energy.

Designed by Denton Corker Marshall, the property follows the natural contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside landscape, creating a layered composition that feels both monumental and intimate. The façade and structural rhythm subtly echo the procession of community and ceremony that defines Balinese culture.

In 1981, Kimpton was founded by Bill Kimpton in San Francisco, pioneering the concept of unique, distinctive, design-forward hotels in the United States. The luxury lifestyle brand made its debut in Asia with the opening of Kimpton Da’An in Taipei and has since rapidly expanded its presence, including the award-winning Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok and Kimpton Kitalay Samui in Thailand, Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong and Kimpton Naluria Kuala Lumpur. This year, an exciting portfolio of hotels will open under the brand including Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide, Kimpton Era Midtown New York, Kimpton De Post Rotterdam, and Kimpton Shanghai 9 Tree Art Center.
