The 5-star Umana Bali, LXR Hotels & Resorts in Ungasan achieved a remarkable milestone by securing two respected awards on both national and international levels. At the end of June, the resort was honored by Elite Traveler Magazine, a prestigious global travel publication, with an award in the Top New Hotel Suites category. Following this, in early July, Umana Bali was distinguished with a national accolade from Marketeers Sustainability Marketing Excellence 2024 for its Local Community Empowerment Program of the Year category.
Elite Traveler Magazine is renowned for offering in-depth insights into super-luxury destinations, making it a prestigious honor for any property to be recognized. This year, Elite Traveler Magazine introduced a new category, Top New Hotel Suites, focusing on assessing the newest hotels. In its inaugural edition, the Elite Traveler panel reviewed hundreds of luxury hotels that opened over the past 18 months. Experts in luxury travel conducted assessments by visiting and staying in suites to experience the offerings firsthand. Following a rigorous evaluation process combining expert reviews, guest feedback, and overall experience, the panel selected winners. The Three-bedroom Umana Ocean Pool Villa in Umana Bali was honored to be included in the Top New Hotel Suites list, surpassing hundreds of other hotels and becoming the sole representative from Indonesia and Southeast Asia on this prestigious list.
Alongside recognition for its services and facilities, Umana Bali's dedication to sustainability is nationally acknowledged. Organized by one of Indonesia's leading marketing and business media outlets, Marketeers Magazine, the Marketeers Sustainability Marketing Excellence 2024 event was attended by dozens of companies from various sectors competing in 25 different categories. This award honors companies, institutions, or organizations that have successfully integrated sustainability principles into their marketing strategies and made a significant impact on the broader community. Following a rigorous judging process, Umana was awarded the Local Community Empowerment Program of the Year for its commitment to empowering local communities.
As the first property from LXR Hotels & Resorts in Southeast Asia, the experience offered by Umana Bali is rooted in the local Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes the harmonious relationship among God (Parahyangan), humans (Pawongan), and nature (Palemahan). This philosophy guides Umana's commitment to empowering local communities. Umana Bali prioritizes both local community and the environment through partnerships with skilled local artisans to create a sanctuary where luxury meets responsibility. Through these partnerships, the resort has commissioned unique pieces of art, sourced local materials like exquisite Javanese marble and rattan, and developed eco-friendly amenities including vanity kits made from recycled banana leaf paper, coconut shell boxes, and natural slippers woven from pandan and mendong fibres. Alongside these initiatives, the resort actively contributes to the local welfare by offering employment opportunities. Approximately 40% of Umana Bali's team members consist of full-time residents from Ungasan.
Umana applies the same approach to its food preparation, prioritizing ingredients sourced using ethical practices. This includes high-quality free-range chicken eggs certified safe by Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and seafoods like sustainably caught salmon certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
All food served adheres to the zero-waste principle to ensure efficient consumption. Waste collected from food scraps will be processed into fertilizer or recycled by the local community. On top of that, Umana also implements initiatives to minimize water usage by utilizing collected rainwater, gray water (recycled water processed from wastewater from bathtubs, sinks, toilets, and daily use), and air-conditioner condensation water as sources for maintaining parks and gardens in the resort.
"Bali is a destination that celebrates traditional Balinese values in contemporary luxury. Every detail and aspect of every experience we offer our guests is carefully curated to be memorable. Apart from emphasizing luxury, Umana Bali sets an example of responsible tourism by harmoniously balancing the welfare of local communities, conservation of nature, and respect for spiritual values. This holistic approach creates a combination of top-tier services with high standards, all while maintaining our responsibility to ensure harmony with the surrounding nature, cultural heritage, and the lives of the local community", said Serpil Guney, General Manager of Umana Bali.
Umana Bali features 72 luxurious villas, which are divided into one-bedroom villas covering an area of 403 square meters, two-bedroom villas covering an area of 562 square meters, and three-bedroom Umana Pool Villas with an area of 1,200 square meters, the largest villa size offered at Umana. Each villa offers the best experience with facilities such as its own private infinity-edge pool, outdoor hot tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and a breathtaking marble bathroom complete with a soaking bathtub. Each villa is thoughtfully designed to ensure maximum comfort while fostering a close connection with the natural surroundings. Umana's ability to seamlessly blend architectural design with top-notch facilities and services, creating an unforgettable experience for guests while preserving harmony with nature and the local community, has earned it well-deserved recognition both domestically and internationally.
