In celebration of its anniversary, Andaz Bali is thrilled to collaborate with Eka Sudarma Putra or ESP, a renowned Balinese artist and painter, to present a heartfelt tribute to Sanur— his birthplace and his lifelong inspiration, one of the reasons why it was only natural for Andaz Bali to choose Eka for its momentous occasion. Through this collaboration under the campaign Be Like No One’s Watching: A Love Letter to Sanur. Featuring Eka Sudarma Putra Artworks “I Love You, Sanur”, Andaz Bali continues to honor its deep connection to local artistry, culture, and the community it calls home.
Eka is no stranger to Indonesia’s art scene. Hailing from Sanur, he has carved a unique presence with his signature artistic style which characterized by the bold and harmonious play between thick and thin lines, reminiscent of the contrasting forces of Yin and Yang. For Eka, inspiration knows no boundaries, it can strike like lighting, igniting his creativity during his journeys from Sanur and beyond. Eka’s connection to Sanur, especially, runs far deeper than just being the place he was born—it’s where his memories live, breathe, and inspire his art. Having lived his whole life there, Eka has witnessed Sanur’s transformation over the years, yet his deep affection for the area has only grown stronger with time.
When Eka reflects on Sanur, a few key memories always come to mind; the sight of fishermen’s boats returning to shore, the beautiful Ketapang (Indian almond) flowers, the kind-hearted hotel receptionist, and the folklore of the mermaid or what locals often call Putri Duyung. Particularly regarding the mermaid, as a young boy, Eka would often hear his neighbor talking about Ikan Duyung (dugong), and each time, his imagination would immediately drift to thoughts of a mermaid. At that moment of time, a mermaid wasn’t just a mythical creature to Eka, but rather a loving, nurturing mother.

To pay homage to these cherished memories, Eka has specially curated three artworks for Andaz Bali’s anniversary this year. Two of the pieces, created using fabric as the medium, will visually capture his beautiful memories towards Sanur, while the third, a standing lamp made from steel, will visualize a mermaid, a friendly creature he holds dear. His artworks are installed at three main points of Andaz Bali which are Andaz Logo facing the beach, Andaz Lounge, and Andaz Gazebo from April 9 th to May 31 st . Guests and art enthusiasts are invited to experience Eka’s work firsthand at Andaz Bali and witness how art continues to bridge story, identity, and the spirit of place.
By partnering with Eka Sudarma Putra, Andaz Bali reaffirms its commitment to celebrating local talent and preserving Bali’s artistic heritage. As a true interpretation of Balinese modern village, Andaz Bali acknowledges creativity as a key element in its guest experience, offering a space where local culture continues to thrive in every corner.
