Making Waves for Change: Hyatt Bali Hosts Fourth Annual “Row for R.O.L.E 4.0”

Continuing a powerful tradition of community empowerment and environmental stewardship, Grand Hyatt Bali, Hyatt Regency Bali, and Andaz Bali, in proud collaboration with the R.O.L.E. Foundation, hosted the fourth edition of the much-anticipated Row for R.O.L.E 4.0 on Saturday, 12 April 2025. This exhilarating Hyatt-to-Hyatt Canoe Race, spanning 13 kilometers from the tranquil shores of Hyatt Regency Bali in Sanur to the stunning coastline of Grand Hyatt Bali in Nusa Dua, brought together a diverse group of participants united by a common purpose to paddle for change. Row for R.O.L.E. 4.0 raised a remarkable IDR 881.105.895 (equivalent to USD 58.740), all of which will go directly to support the Foundation’s programs in women’s empowerment, youth education, and sustainability.

With over 104 paddlers competing across single, double, and paddle board divisions, this year’s event exemplified Hyatt’s World of Care philosophy. More than just a race, Row for R.O.L.E. is a rallying call for environmental action, gender equality, and youth empowerment in Indonesia.

Paddling with Purpose

Now in its fourth year, Row for R.O.L.E. continues to serve as a vital fundraiser for the Bali WISE program under the R.O.L.E. Foundation. This initiative provides vocational training and life skills to marginalized women, empowering them to secure better employment opportunities and become agents of change in their communities. The event also supports youth education in sustainability, promoting long-term environmental awareness and action.

“This year, we’ve seen incredible energy and dedication from every participant,” said Gottfried Bogensperger, Area Vice President & General Manager of Grand Hyatt Bali. “Row for R.O.L.E. 4.0 exemplifies the power of collective action in addressing urgent social and environmental challenges. Through our partnership with the R.O.L.E. Foundation, we’re proud to turn Hyatt’s values into tangible impact.”

Among the most spirited participants this year were well-known lifestyle influencers and athletes, Jennifer and Irfan Bachdim, who took part in the Double category. Sharing their experience, Jennifer remarked, “Rowing 13 kilometers in the ocean was one of the toughest physical challenges we've faced. But what kept us going was knowing that we were doing this for something bigger for the young women whose lives could be changed through education and opportunity.” Echoing her sentiment, Irfan added, “It was exhausting, yes, but every stroke reminded us that we were helping build a better future. Supporting charity and helping young ladies rise it gave us the strength to push through to the finish.”

Celebrating Community and Commitment

The event awarded standout performances across several categories, including Fastest Male, Fastest Female, Fastest Double, and Biggest Fundraiser, adding a spirit of fun and friendly competition to the meaningful cause. Participants of all skill levels paddled with heart, united in a shared mission to uplift women and preserve the environment.

Row for R.O.L.E 4.0 is a shining example of Hyatt’s unwavering commitment to its World of Care strategy—grounded in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and a testament to the belief that small ripples can create lasting waves of change. They extend their heartfelt thanks to all paddlers, sponsors, partners, and volunteers who made this year’s event such a resounding success.
