What’s New Bali had the fun privilege of joining the press conference for Minikino Film Week (MFW) 11 at Artotel Sanur, where passion, laughter, and plenty of caffeine set the tone. The festival itself returns on 12 to 14 September 2025, promising three days of stories, screenings, and surprises.
The press conference gave us a taste of what’s coming, and if the energy in the room is any sign, Bali’s short film scene is about to shine bright.

The stage was filled with sharp minds and creative souls. We heard from I Made Suarbawa (aka Made Birus), the Travelling Festival Director, Edo Wulia, the Festival Director, and Fransiska Prihadi, the Program Director. Adding some extra star power was Rudolf Dethu, a cultural activist and one of this year’s international jury members. Together, they shared why short films matter and reminding us that at its heart, this festival is about celebrating differences.

Beyond speeches, the conference treated us to trailers, sneak peeks, and introductions to the eclectic panel of jurors who will be judging 124 short films from around the world. With selections from France, South Korea, Indonesia, and beyond, the lineup is a curated feast for film lovers. It’s not just about screening movies, it’s about creating a platform for conversations that ripple far beyond the cinema walls.

The vibe at Artotel Sanur was effortlessly warm, complete with free-flow tea and coffee plus light bites that kept the chatter buzzing. Media friends mingled with filmmakers, jury members, and fellow enthusiasts, all swapping stories and gearing up for what’s set to be another unforgettable Minikino Film Week. Bali’s short film scene just got louder, brighter, and a lot more fun, and we’re here for it.
