What's New Bali team had the pleasure of indulging in a wonderful lunch feast at IKAN Restaurant. Here's our feast-tastic story.

From its beachfront location, IKAN offers a casual, fresh, and delicious dining experience that celebrates the laid-back Balinese lifestyle. Under the skilled leadership of Chef de Cuisine Fajar Kurniawan Putra, the restaurant offers a diverse selection of elevated seafood delicacies and local delights. The restaurant's open-air interior created a cozy and breezy atmosphere, allowing guests to dine while enjoying direct views and access to the pristine white sand beach.

On our visit, we sat in the restaurant’s private dining area, closer to the pathway in front of the beach. This is an idyllic setting for moderate group dining, up to 8 people. The convenient long table, sofa, and overall ambience invite us to stay and chat for a bit longer after our memorable feast ends. Guests can also opt to dine in IKAN’s cozy lounge seating, or the beachfront dining nest for a more intimate, romantic vibe. ‘Ikan Bar’ area is also a great choice, especially for those who wish to unwind and sip quality cocktails, wine, or signature drinks provided by the restaurant’s talented mixologist.

It was a bright and sunny noon during our visit to IKAN Restaurant at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali. A perfect day to indulge in a tantalizing feast. Chef Fajar and his merry team have prepared an exclusive 'TASTE OF NUSANTARA' set menu for us, featuring seven mouthwatering dishes that represent the essence of Indonesian cuisine.

The culinary journey commenced with Tuna Gohu Maluku, a tantalizing Maluku tuna ceviche served with crispy nori, starfruit, chili aioli, and kemangi oil. The sweet and sour flavors harmonized perfectly, showcasing the chef's talent for blending local ingredients with a Peruvian ceviche twist.

Main Courses That Delight

The main courses truly impressed the taste buds with a diverse array of flavors. The Ikan Bakar Jimbaran Bali featured grilled Barramundi fish served with Jimbaran Sambal and steamed organic rice. This dish successfully showcases Bali's signature traditional food, featuring succulent fish complemented by the iconic Jimbaran-style Sambal sauce.

For vegetarians, the Grilled Eggplant Mangut Jogjakarta presented a delightful twist on the traditional Mangut preparation. The grilled eggplant, paired with smoked sambal mangut and crispy kemangi, provides a delightful fish-free alternative.

Additionally, Pecel Pincuk Madiun showcased a steamed vegetable dish with peanut sauce and peanut crackers, adding a burst of flavors and textures to the meal. Balinese-style slow-cooked chicken, Ayam Upih Betutu Bali, with the traditional 'base genep' spice and young cassava leaf, impressed with its authentic and delectable taste.

Not to be missed was the Mie Goreng Ebi, featuring stir-fried egg noodles with Javanese homemade dried shrimp (ebi) sauce, a must-try for noodle enthusiasts seeking a flavor-packed delight.

Refreshing Drinks and Delectable Desserts

To complement the sumptuous meal, the restaurant offered a selection of refreshing drinks, from healthy concoctions to freshly squeezed juices and bespoke cocktails. During our feast, we were treated to Westin’s signature Pineapple Curcuma kombucha. One of this drink’s main ingredients, turmeric, has been used in alternative medicine as a possibly effective aid in reducing blood cholesterol. This healthy drink was a delight by itself, with a perfect blend of sweet and sour taste for a refreshing thirst quencher in-between our fine meal.

Concluding our culinary journey, Coconut Campur was served—half a young coconut with coco jelly, pandan sauce, and coconut ice cream. The delightful dessert exuded tropical goodness, leaving the guests refreshed and content after a fulfilling meal.
