The Top Italian Wines Roadshow goes to Bali

18 May promises to be a day of great Italian wines in the beautiful surroundings of Paradisus by Meliá Bali. We will be joined by a selection of some Italy's finest wineries who will be sharing their best bottles. The tasting will also be accompanied by tools including cork screws and spittoons from Pulltex, because great wines need great wine tools in order to be properly appreciated. 

Indonesia is certainly in the early stages of development as a wine market, with approximately US$18.6 million worth of wine imported in 2024, of which Italian wine constituting around US$3.3m of that. However, big things have small beginnings and its growing popularity as a tourist destination is making Indonesia, and Bali in particular, a market that should be on the industry's radar. 

"Wine has proven that it knows no borders, and countries – that until a few years ago seemed reluctant to import wine – are now countries on which Italian wineries are betting," says Giuseppe Carrus, one of Italy’s leading wine critics and a contributor to the Vini d’Italia guide. "Bali is one of these. Tourists are obviously crucial, but thanks to them, wine can become a more popular product. Furthermore, their religion, unlike most of Indonesia, allows the consumption of alcohol." 

Education is a key component in the development of any wine market, as understanding terroir and tasting technique is the key to discovering wines that you will really love. Carrus will be presenting three masterclasses on the day which promise to shed light on some of the extraordinary diversity that Italian wine has to offer. And, although Indonesian cuisine can certainly match with any number of Italian wines, the event will also feature the announcement of the Top Italian Restaurants, the event where we recognise the region's best places to eat and drink like an Italian, whether they're a pizzeria or a fine dining restaurant.
