Sanur has never been a place that rushes. Mornings unfold slowly, afternoons drift by, and dinner often turns into a longer evening than originally planned. It is this easy-going rhythm that inspired Semesta Bistro & Bar, a new dining destination within Kayangan Sanur that brings together coffee, dining, and rooftop experiences under one roof.
Created by Indonesians, Semesta is built around flavours that feel familiar to many Indonesians. The menu draws inspiration from Jakarta and Javanese cooking, taking well-loved dishes and presenting them in a way that feels lighter, more refined, and suited to today's dining culture. The result is a menu built on familiar flavours, approached with a fresh perspective.

The team behind Semesta often refers to the menu as soul food, drawing inspiration from flavours that have long been part of everyday Indonesian dining. Familiar dishes are revisited with careful attention to ingredients, presentation, and balance.
Among the highlights is the Grilled Fish in Bamboo, featuring Spanish mackerel wrapped in banana leaf and cooked inside bamboo, a technique that gives the fish a subtle aroma while keeping it moist and delicate. The Beef Ribs Ngohyong pairs tender grilled beef ribs with sambal matah special and grilled pineapple, bringing richness, freshness, and a touch of sweetness onto the same plate. The Barramundi Sambal Bongkot Honje highlights torch flower sambal, an ingredient still unfamiliar to many international visitors but deeply appreciated in Indonesian cooking for its distinctive fragrance and character.

Alongside these signatures are dishes that many Indonesians know well, including Nasi Rawon, Soto Betawi, Chicken Rendang Fried Rice, and Anchovy Fried Rice. These are dishes many Indonesians know well, prepared with care and attention to detail.
While food sits at the centre of the experience, Semesta was designed to be enjoyed throughout the day. The first floor is dedicated to coffee, breakfast, and brunch. Guests dropping in for a morning flat white will find themselves surrounded by people reading, working, catching up with friends, or simply enjoying a slower start to the day. Breakfast favourites such as the Semesta Breakfast, Shakshuka, Acai Bowl, and Sweet Pancakes complete the offering.
The second floor serves as the restaurant's social hub. This is where lunch meetings stretch a little longer, families gather around the table, and friends settle in for dinner. The atmosphere remains relaxed, but there is a noticeable shift in energy as the day progresses. From 1 July 2026, Semesta will also introduce a dedicated kids menu, giving younger diners their own selection of dishes and making the restaurant an even more welcoming option for family meals.

Upstairs, the rooftop offers yet another side of Semesta. During the day, it functions as an airy space for remote work and casual meetings. As the sun begins to set, the mood changes naturally. Drinks appear on tables, conversations become livelier, and the rooftop settles into its role as an evening escape above Sanur.
Semesta is not trying to reinvent Indonesian food. If anything, it does the opposite. It starts with flavours people already know and love, then treats them with care, attention, and respect. In a dining scene that often moves quickly from one trend to the next, there is something refreshing about that approach.
Some guests may stop by for breakfast and return later for dinner. Others might discover the rooftop first and only realise afterwards that there is a restaurant downstairs worth revisiting. Either way, Semesta is designed to be the kind of place people return to, not just once, but regularly.
Guests can also look forward to a series of upcoming activations this June. On 21 June 2026, Semesta will host a Yoga & Sunrise session, offering an opportunity to start the day on a refreshing note. From 27 to 30 June 2026, Semesta will partner with Isola for the launch of Isola Reserva, featuring wine tasting experiences alongside its regular dining offerings.
Semesta Bistro & Bar is a celebration of Indonesian hospitality, Indonesian flavours, and the simple pleasure of gathering around good food. In a town known for taking life at a gentler pace, it feels right at home.
