Nusa Penida now has a dedicated sea ambulance designed to provide faster emergency medical evacuations across the islands, strengthening access to healthcare for both residents and visitors in Klungkung.
Nusa Medica Clinic Group officially launched the Nusa Medica Sea Ambulance at Bias Munjul Port in Lembongan, Nusa Penida, on 22 September 2026. The launch was officiated by Klungkung Regent I Made Satria and marks the start of an inter-island emergency medical transport service serving Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.
Operating under the tagline “Connecting Islands, Saving Lives,” the service is intended to address one of the biggest challenges of providing emergency healthcare across Klungkung’s island communities: transportation. The sea ambulance will be on standby at Bias Munjul Port and is designed to transport patients requiring urgent medical attention between the islands and onward for further treatment when necessary.
According to I Gede Yuda Kurniawan, Operations Director of Nusa Medica Sea Ambulance, the vessel follows technical guidelines for emergency ambulances and has obtained seaworthiness certification in accordance with Indonesian Ministry of Transportation regulations. The vessel is equipped with medical equipment including a ventilator, suction unit, cardiac monitor, oxygen supplies and emergency medicines. A doctor and trained nurses are also available around the clock.
The service is expected to be particularly useful in emergencies where conventional transportation could delay access to medical care. Nusa Medica also hopes to integrate the sea ambulance with the Klungkung government’s 119 Integrated Emergency Medical Response System (SPGDT 119), creating a more coordinated pathway for emergency calls and patient transfers.
The launch comes as Nusa Penida continues to welcome visitors from around the world, adding another layer of emergency support to the popular island destination. Regent I Made Satria said the region’s island geography presents particular challenges for emergency healthcare and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government in improving medical services for both local communities and international visitors.
The launch event also included a community health initiative, with free medical check-ups and a blood donation drive involving local residents and stakeholders.
With the Nusa Medica Sea Ambulance now on standby, Nusa Penida and its neighbouring islands have an additional emergency response option on the water, helping bridge the gap between island communities and essential medical care.
