When the craving for authentic Hong Kong flavors hits, it often comes with a compromise — either the food feels toned down, or the place itself lacks atmosphere. Three Uncles manages to avoid both. Located right in the heart of Bandung, this Hong Kong restaurant feels genuinely comforting yet effortlessly stylish, making it easy to enjoy a proper meal without having to trade flavor for ambiance.

With so many tempting options on the menu, we started light. The Po-Cai Tofu with Mushroom came first, featuring house-made tofu crafted from pure soy milk and eggs, with a silky, delicate texture that felt simple and comforting, paired with savory mushrooms. We also tried the Treasure dim sum selection, which includes siu mai, ha kau, kao choi kau, and xiao long bao — a satisfying mix that gives a good overview of their classic dim sum offerings. Still, the dish that truly stood out was the Hong Mai Cheung Fan. Filled with shrimp and chicken, wrapped in a crunchy spring roll layer, then rolled again in silky cheung fan skin and finished with Uncle’s secret soy sauce, it delivered layers of texture and flavor that made it feel a step above the usual dim sum.

Naturally, we wanted more. The Mala Wonton Noodle Soup came bold yet balanced, perfect if you enjoy a gentle kick of spice. If rice is more your thing, the Macau Style Cheese Chicken Claypot is a must — rich, comforting, and surprisingly addictive. Everything paired beautifully with a glass of creamy, sweet, and refreshing Hong Kong milk tea, giving the whole meal a relaxed, almost slow-Sunday kind of feel. For something sweet, the Lao Sha Jian Dui was a great way to end the meal, crisp on the outside with a rich, molten filling inside.

What really stayed with us, though, was the space itself. As we looked around, we noticed how the interior blends modern design with subtle Hong Kong references — tiled walls, warm wood accents, and lantern-style lighting that gives the room a soft, welcoming glow. The round tables make sharing dishes easy, while booth seating feels comfortable enough for longer meals. There’s also an outdoor area that feels airy and relaxed, especially inviting during the day. The overall atmosphere reminded us of scenes from classic Chinese films, but with a clean, contemporary touch that still feels very Bandung.
