After successfully hosting four editions of the online jazz competition since 2021, The Papandayan International Jazz Online Competition (TPJC) 2025 returns and is ready to offer a chance for jazz musicians from around the world to showcase their talents. This event, organized by The Papandayan Jazz Management, adopts a hybrid concept, combining virtual platforms and social media, making it accessible to participants and audiences from various parts of the world.
TPJC 2025 is open to both professional and amateur jazz groups, with no age restrictions, from various countries. This competition offers an opportunity for musicians to expand their reach in the global jazz industry by submitting videos of their performances online. With a panel of renowned musicians as judges, participants can receive valuable feedback and evaluations.
As in previous years, TPJC 2025 is divided into two categories: Youth Jazz (for participants under 23 years old) and Jazz Warrior (for participants aged 23 and above). The competition consists of three stages: the preliminary round, semifinal, and grand final, which will test the participant’s skills and creativity on a global level.
Registration for TPJC 2025 will open on January 15th, 2025, and close on March 31st, 2025. Interested jazz musicians can register and submit their performance videos through the provided platform.
The selection process will be conducted by a panel of judges consisting of prominent Indonesian jazz musicians such as Barry Likumahuwa, Venche Manuhutu, senior Bandung artist Hari Pochang and the talented Nita Aartsen. Additionally, TPJC 2025 will also feature international jazz musicians, including Henk Kraaijeveld from the Netherlands and Kostas Patsiotis from Greece, who will enrich the quality of the evaluations.
Nita Aartsen is one of Indonesia's most accomplished and entertaining jazz pianists. Voted Best Female Jazz Artist by AMI, Nita is a renowned musician at numerous jazz festivals across Asia, Australia, the USA, and Europe, as well as at prestigious international jazz clubs. As the Cultural Ambassador for Indonesian Jazz, Nita now helps many young talents break into the international market.
Henk Kraaijeveld is a versatile jazz vocalist and songwriter from the Netherlands. In early 2013, Henk won both jury and audience awards at the 10th edition of the Dutch Vocal Jazz Competition (Nederlands Jazz Vocalisten Concours).
Kostas Patsiotis, born in Athens, Greece, began playing electric bass at the age of thirteen. Since 2014, he has taught double bass and electric bass at the Secondary Music School and privately in Greece. In October 2023, he released his debut album titled “October”.
The winners of the TPJC 2025 will have the chance to perform at The Papandayan Jazz Fest (TPJF) 2025, which will be held in October 2025. In addition, they will compete for a total prize of 100 million Rupiah, gold-plated trophies, certificates, and various other attractive benefits that will undoubtedly open up greater career opportunities for the winners.
TPJC 2025 also continues to receive support from Erasmus Huis, the Royal Netherlands Cultural Center, which has supported The Papandayan Jazz Fest since 2018. This support is expected to provide a platform for Indonesian artists to gain international recognition and strengthen cultural ties between Indonesia and the Netherlands.
