Awakened Body: Gorejat Raga marks a compelling milestone for emerging contemporary artist Haviez Ammar, whose solo exhibition officially opened on January 16, 2026, at Clove Hotel Bandung. Curated by Wildan F. Akbar and presented through a collaboration between ARTVENTOUR and Bormove, the exhibition drew a diverse audience—from senior artists and academics to students and hotel guests—reflecting its strong resonance within Bandung’s art ecosystem.

Through meticulous pencil-on-canvas and mixed media works, Ammar explores the body as an “awakened” site of consciousness, shaped by his pesantren upbringing in Ponorogo and his engagement with Bandung’s contemporary art scene. By deconstructing Reog Ponorogo iconography into a universal visual language, works such as Ukel, Sembahyang, and the latest Liminal (2026) bridge tradition, spirituality, and modern artistic inquiry. The exhibition was met with strong praise from prominent Indonesian artists, who highlighted Ammar’s disciplined drawing technique and the exhibition’s professional execution.

The opening also positioned Clove Hotel as an emerging creative sanctuary. Officially inaugurated by hotel owner and art enthusiast Kinno Thingker, the venue reaffirmed its commitment to supporting emerging artists and future residency programs. Alongside the exhibition, a series of public programs—including curator talks, “Ngaos Seni” discussions, workshops, and live drawing sessions—invite visitors to engage more deeply with the spiritual and cultural narratives behind the works.
Awakened Body: Gorejat Raga runs at Clove Hotel Bandung until February 8, 2026, before continuing to ZEN1 Bali in April 2026, offering audiences an immersive encounter with a rising voice in Indonesia’s contemporary art landscape.
