Known for its stunning landscapes and rich culture, Bali is leading the way in sustainable tourism, targeting Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2045. This commitment includes using solar energy, promoting electric vehicles, and implementing sustainable waste and water management practices. These efforts aim to improve air quality and position Bali as a premium,eco-friendly destination.

The Stones Hotel's Sustainable Shuttle Service

In support of these initiatives, The Stones Hotel - Legian Bali, Autograph Collection, has partnered with PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) to launch an electrified airport shuttle service. Starting in February 2024, this service offers a fleet of advanced vehicles, including the Kijang Innova Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Prius Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and Yaris Cross Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Guests can choose their  preferred eco-friendly vehicle for a luxurious and low-emission travel experience between I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and The Stones Hotel.

The Stones Hotel also launched the 'Let's Get Electrified' campaign; encouraging guests and the community to join the global movement towards sustainable tourism in Bali. "We are excited to lead the way in sustainable transportation in Bali with this collaboration." said Franklyn Kocek, General Manager of The Stones Hotel. "This initiative offers a luxurious travel experience for our guests while reducing our carbon footprint.”

Advancing Sustainable Mobility

The collaboration program's primary emphasis is to enhance visitor experience with xEV mobility services, which focuses on providing safety, comfort, and eco-friendly travel options. This initiative raises awareness and participation in environmental sustainability efforts.

Nandi Julyanto, President of TMMIN, emphasized Toyota's commitment to developing affordable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions. "With options like BEV, PHEV, and HEV, we are expanding our electrification portfolio to offer diverse and eco-friendly transportation. Our multi-pathway approach aims to build a sustainable and adaptive ecosystem, especially in tourism areas like Bali," he said.

Bob Azam, Vice President Director of TMMIN, also highlighted the significant milestones of the Innova BEV conversion, which has undergone extensive trials since February 2024. "Feedback from stakeholders is crucial for enhancing BEV technology and supporting local engineers' development. This effort drives the competitiveness of Indonesia's automotive industry," Azam noted.

Promoting Green Tourism in Bali

Another initiative conducted by Toyota to promote green tourism transformation in Bali is a transportation system based on electrification and digital technology organized by Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF). This includes the Sustainable Mobility Advancing Real Transformation (SMART) program in Ubud, running from September 2023 to May 2024. The Toyota Group continues to leverage electrification technology and collaborations to promote activities aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), furthering Bali's transformation into a green tourism destination.
