Uniting Hope and Togetherness: The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection Mark World Cancer Day with Yayasan Anak Kanker Indonesia
In the spirit of gotong royong the Indonesian philosophy of collective effort, The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, in collaboration with The Sanur Special Economic Zone for Health and Wellness, commemorated World Cancer Day, Wednesday, 4th February 2026, by welcoming children from Yayasan Kanker Anak Indonesia (YKAI) for a meaningful day of care, joy, and togetherness.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment to raise awareness about cancer, encourage prevention, and stand alongside children and their families throughout every step of their journey. Through this program, the partners reaffirm that meaningful hospitality begins with humanity and grows stronger when people move forward together.
The programme was attended by 16 children with various diagnoses, including osteosarcoma, brain cancer, Acute myeloid leukemia, and Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and featured a range of fun and interactive activities designed to spark creativity and positive energy. Throughout the day, the children took part in DIY tote bag painting and Colours of Hope bracelet-making, giving them the freedom to express themselves while creating personal keepsakes that symbolise strength, courage, and optimism.
As a gesture of care and solidarity, employees of The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection also made donations to Yayasan Kanker Anak Indonesia, reinforcing a shared spirit of togetherness and tangible support for the children and families as they continue their treatment journey. These activities not only encouraged creativity but also created moments of laughter and connection, reminding everyone present that even simple acts of joy can have a profoundly meaningful impact.
“As a growing region focused on health and wellness, we feel a responsibility to support and bring joy to children battling cancer and their families. Seeing the enthusiasm and smiles of the children at today’s event encourages us to continue presenting relevant initiatives that can boost their spirits and hope as they undergo treatment,” said Susy Napitupulu, Director of The Sanur.
Echoing this commitment, Ed Brea, General Manager of The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to cancer awareness. “World Cancer Day reminds us that the journey against cancer is not only about treatment and cure, but also about prevention, education, and emotional support. As hospitality leaders within a health and wellness ecosystem, we believe in creating environments that support healing, physically, mentally, and emotionally while continuing to advocate for awareness and early action,” he said.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Dr. Jan Christian, CHt, a Medical Doctor and Hypnotherapist, who provided hypnotherapy sessions for children as well as guidance for parents highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing for both young patients and their families during the treatment process.
Representing Yayasan Kanker Anak Indonesia, Hana Elisa Mandey shared a heartfelt reflection on the strength behind every child’s fight. “In every child battling cancer, there are parents who stand firmly beside them through fear, exhaustion, and hope. Parents are the real heroes providing unwavering love and courage throughout this journey. Support from the community like this reminds families that they are not alone,” she said.
Through initiatives designed to honour World Cancer Day, The Meru Sanur, Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, and The Sanur reaffirm their dedication to building a compassionate wellness ecosystem one that not only focuses on luxury and wellbeing, but also on empathy, solidarity, and meaningful social impact.
