The 2025 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) closed all submissions on August 31st, 2025. The judging process will continue to the next stage starting on September 9, 2025. As previously announced, this year's FFI judging system has been refined based on input from a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held by the FFI Committee in 2024 with film industry stakeholders and an evaluation of the previous year's FFI. This year, the Recommendation Stage will be conducted by the Citra Academy, followed by the Nomination Stage by film associations, and finally the Winner Stage based on the assessment of the Final Jury.
A total of 794 entries, including feature films, short films, animated films, documentaries, and film reviews, have been received by the 2025 FFI Committee. This number consists of 130 feature films, 664 non-feature films, including 272 short films, 4 animated feature films, 72 animated short films, 13 feature-length documentaries, 102 short documentaries, and 201 film reviews.
"It's great to see the enthusiasm during the registration period. Although this year's registration period was shorter than last year, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of everyone involved. The number of feature films and animated feature films registered this year has increased from the previous year. Film Reviews, in particular, have doubled from 2024, hopefully indicating that there are more talented film critics in the country. Hopefully, the films that passed the initial selection will signify the advancement of our film industry, both in terms of technical aspects and storytelling, and become a reflection of the diversity of our films,” said Ario Bayu, the Chairman of the 2025 FFI Committee.
This year, the 2025 FFI Committee appointed three professionals from the film industry as the Initial Selection Team, who worked with the FFI Judging Panel to conduct the initial selection. They are Ifan Adriansyah Ismail (Screenwriter), Nauval Yazid (Festival Director and Film Programmer), and Vivian Idris (National Talent Management Promoter for Film).
Based on the judging criteria and elements, nomination potential, and administrative requirements, the 25 feature films that passed the Initial Selection Stage are 1) 1 Kakak 7 Ponakan, 2) 2nd Miracle in Cell No.7, 3) Angkara Murka, 4) Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis, 5) Dia Bukan Ibu, 6) Gowok, 7) Home Sweet Loan, 8) Jumbo, 9) Kitab Sijjin dan Illiyyin, 10) Komang, 11) My Annoying Brother, 12) Panggil Aku Ayah, 13) Pangku, 14) Panji Tengkorak, 15) Pengepungan di Bukit Duri, 16) Perang Kota, 17) Qodrat 2, 18) Rangga & Cinta, 19) Siapa Dia, 20) Singsot: Siulan Kematian, 21) SORE: Istri dari Masa Depan, 22) Tale of the Land, 23) Tebusan Dosa, 24) The Shadow Strays, dan 25) Tinggal Meninggal.
The Head of the FFI 2025 Judging Division, Budi Irawanto, expressed his appreciation for the 25 feature films that passed the Initial Selection Stage. "Through a rigorous and careful assessment process, the 25 films that passed the initial selection stage reflect a diversity of genres, themes, and artistic styles, as well as demonstrating impressive technical achievements. Additionally, several films that passed the initial selection are the debuts of young directors, giving hope for a bright future for Indonesian cinema. Interestingly, this year, animated films will compete in the Feature Film category, in addition to the Animated Feature category. This proves that the quality of our animation today deserves to be appreciated and recognized in the domestic film industry," he said.
These films will then undergo the Recommendation Stage by the Citra Academy. This year, the judging process will once again be conducted online in the FFI Screening Room. This online screening platform is available through the collaboration of the FFI 2025 Committee with Bioskop Online and can only be accessed by members of the Citra Academy and representatives of film associations on duty. The FFI Citra Academy, which consists of filmmakers who have won the FFI Citra Award, will once again be involved in determining the list of recommendations for Feature Films. A total of 85 members of the Citra Academy have expressed their willingness to participate this year.
The list of non-feature films, including short films, animated films, and documentaries, as well as film reviews that have passed the Initial Selection Stage, will also be announced shortly. The FFI 2025 Nomination List will be announced in the third week of October 2025. The 2025 FFI Citra Award Night will be held in November 2025.
