As the main partner of Jia CURATED 2025, The Balvenie brings The Makers Project to Bali in collaboration with Indonesian multidisciplinary artist Lianggono of Studio Lianggono. Rooted in a shared respect for time-honoured craft, this special presentation features Wang Sinawang—a thoughtful installation inspired by The Balvenie’s own traditions of Home Grown Barley and the Malting Floor, two of its Five Rare Crafts. Set within the creative energy of Bali Festival Park from 14 to 18 August, the experience offers a rare glimpse into the artistry and soul that define both fine whisky making and contemporary Indonesian craft.
In this spirit, The Balvenie continues to honour its Five Rare Crafts. As the only distillery in Scotland that still practices all Five Rare Crafts of whisky making—Home Grown Barley, the Malting Floor, Copper Stills, Cooperage, and the guidance of the Malt Master—every bottle is a reflection of time, care, and the hands that shape it. The Makers Project celebrates the people behind these traditions: dedicated makers whose quiet skill and unwavering care bring depth and character to every drop. Through this collaboration in Bali, The Balvenie invites guests to reconnect with the value of handwork, heritage, and the deeply human act of making with intention.
“Wang Sinawang is a Javanese term that invites us to wait, to see, to sense, and to wonder. The beauty lies not only in what is made, but in how it is made—shaped by process, by time, and by the irreplaceable knowledge of the human hand. With each repetition, it becomes a kind of love.”, shares Lianggono of Studio Lianggono, reflecting on his work for The Makers Project with The Balvenie. “Like whisky, like memory—some things are shaped not by speed, but by presence. It’s the waiting that teaches us to see.”
Within the space, guests are invited to slow down and engage with an immersive environment of natural textures, rhythmic sound, and layered visuals — each element echoing the quiet repetition, care, and craft that define the whisky-making journey.

As part of The Makers Project: Wang Sinawang, The Balvenie invites guests to experience a sensory exploration of craft, culture, and connection at Bali Festival Park, open to the public from 14–18 August, 12PM to 10PM daily. Anchored by the Wang Sinawang installation by Studio Lianggono, the experience draws visitors into a meditative space shaped by natural textures, layered soundscapes, and visual storytelling—reflecting the patience and precision behind The Balvenie’s own whisky-making traditions. Throughout the exhibition, guests can enjoy scheduled live performances within the installation and curated whisky flight tastings.
To mark the unveiling of The Makers Project in Bali, an intimate whisky dinner was held on 13 August at The Balvenie area for curated guests. The evening featured a Nusantara-inspired menu by Chef Wayan Kresna Yasa of Kaum Restaurant, thoughtfully paired with a selection of The Balvenie’s finest single malts. Led by Jyri Pylkkänen, South East Asia Regional Malts Brand Ambassador of William Grant & Sons, the tasting began with The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old, known for its warm nutty sweetness and delicate spice. Guests then explored the tropical richness of The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old, followed by the elegant balance of vanilla, oak, and floral character in The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old.
“We are constantly seeking to partner with individuals who share our passion for creating the extraordinary. Our collaboration with Lianggono from Studio Lianggono perfectly exemplifies this, as his work's ideals align seamlessly with ours. For this year’s Makers Project, we are proud to offer consumers the chance to embark on a unique journey and get first-hand experience of the distillery behind this remarkable liquid crafted with heart,” said Jyri Pylkkänen, Regional Malts Brand Ambassador of Southeast Asia (SEA).
