Following the successful launch of Ubud: Cinecurious, Titik Dua Ubud introduces its second program with Olah Rasa: A Day Full of Flavours, an immersive journey where cinema and cuisine come together. This edition celebrates the intersection of food, film, and culture through hands-on experiences, Balinese traditional communal dining called megibung, and a special screening of Edwin’s award-winning Aruna & Her Palate (Aruna & Lidahnya, 2018).

Adapted from Laksmi Pamuntjak’s novel, Aruna & Her Palate is more than a film; it’s a flavorful exploration of Indonesia’s diverse culinary heritage woven with themes of friendship, love, and memory. Set across Surabaya, Pamekasan, Pontianak, and Singkawang, the film has won multiple accolades, including Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2018 Festival Film Indonesia and international screenings in Berlin and Macao.

Culinary cinema is intimate; When people eat on screen, you see their humanity in its most vulnerable form,” said Edwin, the film’s director.

From 3:00 PM onwards, the Olah Rasa: A Day Full of Flavours will open to the public at Titik Dua. Guests are encouraged to wear kain to honor Indonesian heritage. The celebration will feature:

-15.00 – 21.30 | Pasar Rakyat by Sore Sore, a lively marketplace with artisans, F&B stalls, free-flow drinks, and music by DJ Ebes.

-15.00 – 16.00 | Meracik Rasa, a hands-on cooking demo exploring Base Genep, Bali’s traditional spice blend, led by culinary storyteller Ade Putri Paramadita and Chef Kori Antarayasa of Ramu Kitchen.

A Tribute to Food and Cinema Lovers

The choice of film is also a heartfelt tribute to the late John Badalu, initiator of Ubud: Cinecurious and a devoted foodie. As remembered by his close friend Yasmina Haryono:

His close friend Yasmina Haryono also remembers:

We were big foodies. It was how we connected, how we celebrated, how we healed. John especially loved Chinese food... Whenever we met up, food was central. He’d ask what I was in the mood for and then pick a place that matched it perfectly. He knew his spots: seafood by the pier in Sumba, noodles in Kuta, La Lucciola with its ocean view over his beloved Petitenget beach. In Bali, he always had a new recommendation.”
