Indonesia is paving the way for a more accessible, investor-friendly, and globally engaged future—streamlining bureaucracy while opening doors for innovation, collaboration, and cultural exchange.

The Directorate General of Immigration has officially reduced its visa categories from 133 to 110, marking a major step toward a more efficient and globally responsive system. This reform, introduced through the Minister of Immigration and Corrections Decree No. M.IP-08.GR.01.01 of 2025, reflects Indonesia’s commitment to simplifying immigration services while keeping pace with global mobility trends.

What’s new: key visa reforms and highlights

A1 Visa – Simplified entry for visa-free travellers

Travellers from visa-exempt countries will now benefit from a streamlined A1 index, which consolidates tourism, short-term business, and medical treatment under one umbrella for stays up to 30 days. This replaces several separate categories, making entry faster and more efficient.

B1 Visa – Enhanced Visa on Arrival (VoA)

The updated B1 visa is available to those eligible for Visa on Arrival and covers tourism, business activities, and medical care. Valid for 30 days and extendable once, it offers more flexibility and convenience for short-term visits.

C7C Visa – Showcasing arts, culture, and skills

This new visa category is designed to support non-musical artistic and cultural activities. It could be a magic performance, a cooking demo by a celebrity chef, or a fan event. This visa opens the door for creative professionals to share their talents in Indonesia.

Supporting strategic growth with visas for investors in IKN

With development ramping up in Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), tailored visas have been introduced to attract and support foreign investment:

- E28F Visa: For investors contributing capital directly into IKN’s development.
- E28G Visa: For foreign company representatives assigned to Indonesian branches of their parent corporations.

These categories are designed to encourage foreign participation in one of Southeast Asia’s most ambitious urban development projects.

Simplified work visas: From 31 to just six

Indonesia is also making it easier for foreign professionals to work in the country. Previously spread across 31 categories, work visas have now been consolidated into just six core indexes.

Moreover, two new indexes—E23U and E23V—have been introduced for non-corporate sponsored professionals, allowing greater flexibility for applicants backed by institutions or nonprofit organisations.
