REVIEW: Hot pot and BBQ at Sukiyaki 8

Sukiyaki originated in Japan and is widely known as a winter food to enjoy at end-year parties, with a pot of soup stock simmering placed in the center of the table where guests are provided a variety of delicacies and ingredients to add into. Perfect for sharing with groups of friends or families.

Hot pot and BBQ are recently becoming a trend and in Bali, you can find restaurants that offer the menu. We visited Sukiyaki 8 to take on their all-you-can-eat buffet!

Upon entry, you will feast your eyes on the mural painting leading up the stairs to the restaurant. The spacious dining area can accommodate gatherings, birthday parties, family outings, or an arisan. After deciding where to sit (of course near the buffet for easy access!), we went straight to the buffet where they serve all the dishes for you to feast on.

Other than a selection of meat (including fresh seafood!), with no pork or lard, you can also enjoy fried or steamed dim sum, sushi, fruits, and veggies to accompany the hot pot or BBQ. Mineral water and several selections of drinks such as iced tea and infused water are included, but you can also add mocktails or cocktails from the bar at an additional cost.

For 90 minutes per table, you can have as much meat or other dishes as you like. Nonetheless, if you don’t feel like eating from the buffet or joining the all-you-can-eat, you can also opt for an a-la-carte menu and you can even bring home their instant hot pot! Such a convenient and easy solution for those who prefer to stay home.

The variety of meat is abundant and if you’re a daredevil, we recommend you try spicy meat. It’s a thin slice of meat covered in ground chili! As the meat touches the grill, it stings right to your throat and eyes. We had to raise our white flag and surrender to the meat.

Our choice of soup that evening was the tom yum and mala broth. If you enjoy spicy food, we would recommend these selections, however, they also have chicken broth if you prefer to keep it neutral.

One thing you can’t miss is their Birthday Month Promo, where the birthday girl or boy can eat for free, as long as you bring a friend along for the meal.

Located in Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai in Pemogan, South Denpasar, Sukiyaki 8 is open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Sunday, starting from 10 AM to 9.30 PM. Our team had a fulfilling meal at Sukiyaki 8, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to all-you-can-eat lovers.
