Pullman and ibis Styles Bandung Grand Central hosted an unforgettable celebration of one of Indonesia’s most cherished cultural treasures, Batik, which has always been a source of pride for Indonesians. Every year, we celebrate National Batik Day, but this year felt extra special. We had the chance to immerse ourselves in the traditional Batik-making process, using the Canting, a tool for hand-painting Batik. This intimate experience, called “KarnavAll Batik,” was a unique opportunity to connect with our cultural heritage.
The process began with the meticulous art of painting with Canting. It was challenging, yet it made us appreciate the patience and skill that Batik artists pour into their work. Batik making is an incredible way to connect with Indonesian culture. It offers a hands-on experience that goes beyond just wearing Batik, it immerses you in the intricate art form that reflects Indonesia’s rich history and craftsmanship. As we applied hot wax with the Canting, we gained a deeper appreciation for the artistry and tradition involved, making the experience both creative and meaningful. Pullman and ibis Styles Bandung Grand Central collaborated with Bartega Art Studio and Rumah Batik to guide us through the session, where we worked on a stunning sketch combining the Peacock and West Javanese Kawung motifs.
Our completed Batik became a personal, memorable souvenir from the event—a symbol of our hands-on connection to Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. The day was perfectly rounded off with a delightful Sunday brunch at Pullman Bandung Grand Central’s Sadrasa Kitchen and Bar. The buffet featured an impressive array of dishes, from a seafood bar to sushi, pasta, and pizza. There were even local delicacies like Rujak and Es Cendol to savor.
Now, moving on to the highlight of the culinary journey. The Roasted Herb Sirloin was a standout. Each bite was juicy and tender, with the herbs infusing a delicate fragrance that lingered on the palate, complemented by the rich, savory juices of the roast. Next, The Singaporean Blue Crab. Its spicy chili sauce clung to the sweet, succulent crab meat, creating a perfect contrast.
The Chicken Shawarma, seasoned to perfection, took us straight to the Middle East. The warm, spiced meat wrapped in soft flatbread was both comforting and flavorful. On the other hand, the Iga Bakar Karebosi had an intense, smoky char that deepened the flavor of the tender beef, balanced by a subtly sweet glaze that made it irresistible.
For dessert, the Pannacotta was a velvety masterpiece. Its light, creamy texture melted in our mouths, leaving behind a delicate vanilla flavor that wasn’t too sweet, just smooth and luscious. The Tiramisu Classic, with its layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and rich mascarpone, delivered an indulgent coffee kick, each bite better than the last.
As the day wrapped up, we couldn’t help but reflect on how the event perfectly merged culture and cuisine. From crafting and painting Batik with Canting to indulging in an exceptional culinary feast, it was an experience that went beyond just tasting or seeing, it was about immersing ourselves in the beauty of tradition and creativity. Each part of the day was thoughtfully curated, making it not just memorable but truly extraordinary.
